Bad Gas Mileage

Ok, I just replaced my spark plugs and I gapped them to .041 but I didn't replace my wires because they were in really good condition. I pulled my old spark plugs out and they hadn't been replaced in a long time. They looked terrible. They had oily residue on them and were really dirty. So, anyways I checked the gap on the old ones just to see what they were at. They were at .050!!! So, I put in new NGK spark plugs (which is what I had in there before) and now the car is getting worse gas mileage? It has all of the throttle and power, just not the decent gas mileage that it used to get? What do you think is the problem?

Yeah, I thought that it could be that. But, wouldn't a check engine light or something come on?

No, I dont think the light ever comes on for the O2. Check if there are any codes on the ECU

my recommendation:

1)add marvel mystery oil
2)clean the throttle body
3)replace fuel filter (mine weighed 4 pounds)
4)get ngk V_racing
5)use chevron with techron on your next fill up

Where can I get this Marvel Mystery oil and how much do I need? Is it for a full oil change or do you just add one bottle? My fuel filter was just replaced when I changed my oil 3,000 miles ago. I just replaced the plugs w/ NGK's. There aren't any Chevron stations close to here for miles. I just use BP or Shell.

marvel mystery oil can be added to your gas and oil, one container should be enough and not cost you more than 5-10$. the chevron with techron fuel system cleaner and mystery oil can be bought at autozone.

Check the coil wire where it goes into the distributer cap and make sure its not corroded . WeaK spark to engine will cause increased fuel comsumption . Also look at the top of the cap closley for any cracks . Spray water on the cap while its running and see if it dies . This will check the cap for cracks also .

Yeah, it definetly has been a while since the 02 sensor has been replaced. Plus the fact that I don't have a catalytic converter on the car too, maybe? But, it just recently happened when I replaced the plugs, so why would it just happen then? Because with the old plugs, I was getting about 300-320 miles to the tank. Now, I'm getting about 260-280 miles to the tank?

Lucky, I am getting 200 miles per tank before my gas light comes on. I have no clue whats wrong, new plugs, wires, O2 sensor, distributor. I am clueless, gonna start order a sensor here and there till it solves it.

Sounds to me like were only talking 2-3 mpg difference . Cold weather . Driving harder ect. can loose this much fuel mileage . Are your cars heating up to operating temperature ?

not really, they all are NTK in the box, which I usually don't ship them in any ways. (I got some thinner more label friendly boxes that I use)
