Help - How to remove crank pulley?
Help - How to remove crank pulley?
Doing a timing belt change on a 1990 GXE. The crank pulley couldn't be removed by hand or by prying and is on pretty snug.
Purchased a pulley remover from Sears - the kind you bolt on the pulley. However, the crank pulley on the 1990 VG doesn't have screw holes to bolt in the pulley remover.
Anyone knows how I can remove the crank pulley?
Thanks for your help.

I wouldn't beat on it. If you do that too much or too hard, you risk bending the end of the crankshaft. You probably wouldn't but it's still a possibility.
I'd suggest getting a different puller. They have plenty of them without the need for bolt holes. It just has one piece that goes right in the middle and two or three arms that go on the edges of the crank pulley. Check pep boys or your local parts store.

could also try a torch to heat up the rust...

Waterpumps and the timing belt on the VG are a PITA...

Hmmm, well I didn't figure that it would even be a problem but I guess it is
lol. Don't always listen to me I'm still a
get yourself a large jaw pulley that fits the pulley. at the middle of the jaw puller there is a screw rod that you press inward toward the object that you'd like removed. So after you took off the that screw, there will be nothing there to hold it down while you press that thread rod. Just head to home depot/lowes and get yourself some washers/anything that'll fill that hole so you could press it. It should comes off easily with a jaw puller, you'll see what I'd mean when you get there. Note that you don't need to worry about the holes you've mentioned. Just get a standard jaw puller with claws that grab the pulley, that should be more than enough.
beating and hitting the crank snot is a quick sure way to eff up your motor. i've seen crank snouts break off from the rest of the crank. not a pretty sight.
yes get a big claw/gear puller and work it out slowly.
