Importance of the PCV valve???
Just last weekend I noticed that I never got mine replaced in 4 years that I own this car, so I replaced it. The result: noticeable improvement of fuel economy and much better pick up. Can't tell the difference between the old and new one: both seemed to pass air iin one direction and lock in another...
I swear I even feel improved braking, but that must be because I replaced the front struts.
Enlighten me please, what is the role of PCV?

Also allows moisture and gasoline to boil off and leave the crankcase.

The primary purpose of the PCV is to relieve pressure in the crank case so the pistons don't have to fight against it as they move down.
Sometimes an old one will appear to be working fine, and it probably is. But a new one can open a fraction faster, and have slightly more airflow (no gunk buildup). I replaced mine and got the same feeling you did, that the engine seemed quicker. I also replaced the PCV hose at the same time.
YMMV,

Thank you all, now I have much better understanding of how it works. And yes, I am VG.
Maybe next question would be, is there anything else that is as cheap as PCV valve and as easy to replace, that can improve my gas mileage and pickup?
