How much to pay for '90 maxima?
My '94 recently had the transmission crap out on me so I'm in the market for another car. I live in kind of a dinky town so there isn't a huge selection. I also live in a less populated area of the country so any trips to find a car would be fairly substantial.
I just saw a '90 Maxima with 120k miles that looks fairly immaculate-I'm going to test it out tonight and see- for $2600 obo. I checked out KBB and it said $2300 for good condition and $2700 for excellent condition, but I've noticed that kbb isn't always the best representation of price especially for older cars.
Assuming the car runs well is $2600 reasonable for an AT '90 GXE? Thanks!

i paid 1350 for my 90 5speed in fair condition (seats were torn and clutch was trash) but i had all custom interior to put in it already so it wasnt a big deal and i have lots of friends for the clutch install but if you say it is immaculate then i think it should be priced around 2,000-2,200 since it is 14 years old. make sure you check the tranny out i know the prime time for them to act up is after 100k i have 2 more friends that have maxis and all 3 of us have had tranny rebuilds(i have an 89 auto too)lol good luck with the car man let meknow if it ned any interor parts i have TONS of spare stuff lol....

I just sold an 1989 SE for $2000, with 140,000 miles. Since mine had carbon fiber dash and door trim, a new Blaupunkt stereo and speakers and brembo brakes and stainless brake lines, i think what they are asking for the GXE is high. I would offfer $2000 and see what happens.

Can't you get the transmission rebuilt on the 94 for less than what you are looking to spend for the 90 GXE ? Just a thought. As was said, I would be skeptical about the tranny on the 90 with 120K miles unless you know the history on it.

$2600 is high in my opinion, especially considering the blue book value in good condition is $2300. Check E-bay or you will kick youself later for it when you see how low the cars go on there. If it is truly in "immaculate" condition I would probably give $2200 for it. I bought my '92 SE with 127,000 miles on it for $2000. It has all the options:leather, CD, sunroof, spoiler, black on black. The interior and motor were both really good, but the body has some dings and the bumper cover was cracked. The guy just got done putting $2600 into it within the last few months of me buying it too. Hopefully that gives you something to go by.

too high, a friend of mine was lookin for a 91. The boss at one of the local nissan dealers was selling his 91 gxe for 2000, and since he owns the dealership, you better believe that thing was in pristine order. Talk him down to like 2000.

Ok, $2600 for a 1990 GXE is waaaay too much. At 120,000 miles you have a good chance that the tranny will crap out on you before the end of the year. In addition to that I don't think that $2600 is appropiate for a 14 year old car, even if it is a Maxima. Just keep looking for a 5sp or a VE. If you "have" to buy that GXE you "have" to talk him down. Otherwise it's not worth your investment.
But that's just my $.02....
