Buying a VE

Hey guys, instead of replacing the tranny in my GXE I might be buying a VE!!
I saw her at the junkyard and the guy wants $1800 although I'm sure I can talk him down... I don't know if the title is clean or a salvage, I'll check that out tomorrow.
Anyways, I don't have any experience working with a VE so are there any things that I should look for? Any particular problems with the engine or transmission?
I probably will talk him down to $1500 or $1800 but I'll make sure to pick up spare parts: hood, fender, light, and I found the coveted Ford-Mercury cup holder!!!!
Please do reply soon guys because I'll look at the car tomorrow nd maybe buy it before the end of the week.

umm VTCs? not much difference in regular problems between a VG and VE I don't think, I have a VG though, but if you get that car switch in all the tight GXE parts you have on your 94!

The VE also seems (in some cases) to develop a hesitation problem that, at the moment, is not completely curable. Make sure the engine runs fairly smoothly once warmed up. I don't have this problem (*knock on wood*), but I've seen plenty people on the org post about it.

crank position sensor and coil packs for spark plugs also tend to go bad. Also check to make sure the car you're buying doesn't need a clutch or transmission work.

Dude, the best thing to do is read all the FAQ's regarding the knock sensor (KS), VTC's coil packs, and all that good stuff. Look in the FAQ's for the different org. member's sites too and they will have alot of info regarding problem areas and that sort of thing. Also go online and type in VE30DE and surf through the links. I don't think there is anyone here who can tell you any more than what you would learn from doing that.

Thanks for all the responses. One more question: The automatic tranny in the VG completely sucks monkey *****, I'm sure we can all agree on that. Is the one on the VE any better? AAron92SE runs his Max in a stock tranny I believe.

VE autos are the same as the 4-gen autos. Any auto with xxx,xxx miles might have problems. Check the oil level and color

go 5spd, you won't have to worry about tranmission as much as auto. Plus it's funner or more fun to drive and beat. VE 5spd = porshe 911....sorta

I can always do the 5sp conversion later. I just need to get on the road as soon as possible and the car looks like a great candidate...

The VE did get a stronger trans than the VG, but it's still too weak for my tastes.
Of course I consider most trannys to weak muwhahaha.

Is the price right for the car? $1800 but it has a scratch/dent on the left front and rear door and a bit of rust on the rear left wheel well. Haven't gone to check it yet so not sure about the mileage...

OK, I went to check the car today. It is a 1994 SE with 192,xxx mi. Now the car has a new engine and a new tranny that have just been put in (got paperwork to prove it). A little bit of rust in the rear right side skirt. The interior is in very good shape and the electronic components are also working well. Then suspensions are nice and tight and should last for a while, until I get my Eibach's and Tokico's. I managed to talk him down to $1500 and I can probably get him to go down a couple of more $100's. Also, there are no VTC problems!! The car is an auto, color Pearl with Beige cloth interior.
So, what do you think?
That would make 3 Maxi's in the family:
1999 Maxima SE Auto (mom)
1994 Maxima SE Auto (future car)
1994 Maxima GXE Auto (Would become a project car)

TAKE IT! That's a steal with a new engine and tranny. I'll buy it off of you for $1,600. Just kidding.
