O2 sensor wire length/performance

Does the length of wire between the O2 sensor and harness have an affect on performance? There is at least an extra 2 feet of wire that bundled in the back of my engine bay. I remember an .org member saying that he got an extra 2-3 mpg by chopping the wire down to size. Anybody know anything about this?

Hmm resistance value might change with different lengh wires. I don't see this being a problem off hand. I guess you could measure the resistance along the lengh of the wire and compare it to stock etc..

I really doubt that.

The extra length would cause very little increased resistance on the signal. Unless something is really wrong with the wiring, it should probably be less than an ohm difference. It's not a high power signal from there and it's using 18AWG (general estimate, might actually be 14-18) which is plenty fine for it.

So, no, it shouldn't AFFECT the signal and it wont have an EFFECT on your car.

Considering that bosch has an extra 2ft worth of wire on the o2 I don't think it would make squat worth of diference.

Alright then, thanks for the info guys. I don't remember who said that it saved them 2-3 mpg, but they must have been dreaming. Thanks for the grammar lesson too Craig. I thought about the use of that word when I was posting and I wasn't sure I was using it right or not. It's good to see that it didn't AFFECT how people understood the thread. I ain't no too picky bout ma grammar in these threads yo dog! If I use proper English I don't think all of the .org members can understand me as well
