Cams question

1> I don't remember if it's possible but can I drop in the z31 euro cams into my '91 VG with no problems? I know I'll need new lifters to go with them. If not then would the isky 262/258 cams be a good choice or does anybody have a certain set of cams they would prefer? I'm trying to make this car an all motor auto monster so any help and info would be good .

you can drop in the euro cams but in an n/a engine they will only gain you something like 5 hp or so. even on a boosted engine they will only gain you 10 hp so i'd definitely go with something a bit better.

IMO the Motorsport cams look to be the optimal choice since they offer about 3 "levels"...as far as an N/A VG auto monster...it's gonna take WAAAAAAAAAAY more than cams.

I know saying I'm trying to make a VG auto a monster but it's something different ya know? Like Aaron's VE auto. It's something different! It would be crazy to go to the track and race someone for the hell of it and keep up with them or even beat them and they find out you got an auto. Plus I live in NYC so a 5-spd isn't out of the question but just too much shifting for me.

well I've seen/driven/ridden in a Nismo cam'd + bolt-ons(and some extras) auto VG...its great on the highway and can keep up with some auto VEs, but its by far no monster, definently FAST for a VG, but you get the point. IMO to unlock the VGs n/a potential, serious engine work is the only way. and there are plenty companies out there with plenty n/a VG hop up goodies....you just gotta look. as far as the VG + auto tranny, good luck....that just means you'll need more power BEHIND that tranny to make up for what a 5spd or VE is already packing, IMO 5spd or bust...I'll never go back to slowtomatic

You can stay with the auto. Talk to Nismo87SE aka Ari or Kaleb. They know what the VG Auto is capable of and you would be surprised at it's potential. Nitrous or Turbo will definitely be in the equation. As for an all motor build up, if you do all the things I have done, plus cams, headwork, pistons and everything else you can do to that NA motor... I would be surprised if you barely peak in the high 14s. So if you really want to do something and keep the auto and the sleeper status like me, you need to first, BEEF up that tranny. A VB mod won't be enough if you plan on running 13s or faster. You need to build up the tranny with good performance parts and make it bulletproof. Then strap on the turbo and you will have a very nice sleeper. And for the 1/4 mile, autos have more potential when you start talking about nitrous and turbo. Auto power!
