Cruise Control

The cruise control in my car is not working. I have a 94 Maxima GXE and the light on the dash works but when I hit the "SET" button on my steering wheel, I get no response. Any ideas?

Mine was like this before and I got a new cruise control vacuum assembly thing from a junk yard (the part under the hood) and it works fine now.

I don't know if this is your problem, but I recall some other guys having to replace theirs, too. Yours could also be the switches in the steering wheel. Maybe check them, too.

Are you talking about the actual electronic unit or? Explain a bit more please. I'm such a Newbie at this stuff.

yeah, it is the actuator part. It has a cable to the throttle and an electronic part (sensor of some kind?) with a plug and a round grey thing on it. Really, it's all one piece.

I'm going to the Junkyard on Saturday...where is the actual part located?

If you are not sure what you are doing, you might want to ask the mechanic at the junkyard for some help. No use in talking a car apart and try to fit the piece in yours if it's not the right one.

I am not sure about the location on the VG or if it's even the same part. You might want to have someone with a VG take a pic for you, since I have never really even looked closely at one

See the round grey thing just below the power steering fluid reservoir? On mine I replaced everything attached to that.

Hey, Seyath, he has to learn sometime! Taking things apart help in understanding how they work.

Cecplex, just don't break anything that someone else might be able to use if you go to a U-Pull-It yard.

I had the same problem with my cruise. I checked all the connections and nothing seemed out of place, so the next day i tried it and it worked fine! It's weird, during cold weather it will shut off when i hit a significant bump, but in warm weather it's fine. Anyway, the location of the unit is in the same place as the pic Red92 posted, looks identical. just follow the second throttle cable right to it. good luck

one thing that gets frequently overlooked is the switch at the clutch pedal (for 5 speeds...switch is pressed when you release the clutch.) Most times, the clutch isn't pressing on the switch hard enough to make contact, so the actuator (or brain or whatever) thinks your foot is on the clutch.

Concerning the actuators for the vg/ve....they are interchangeable. The only difference is that the one from the vg has a longer cable than on the ve. But they ARE interchangeable....I have a spare one from my vg by the way.

oh yeah, they are mounted in the same location with the same mounting hardware.
