coolant leaking

I have a 94 max that is leaking coolant for the passenge side and it only happens when it is running.... Any ideas? I figured that it could be the water pump....

From: Miami, FL. / Indianapolis, IN.
check ur hoses like ur upper radiator hose, bypass hose which goes into ur water pump and any other hose that u can think of. this happened to me and it turned out to be the upper radiator hose and bypass hose.

good luck

when was the last time the pump was replaced? how many miles on your car? i noticed a little bit leaking from mine too..kinda need to get around to replacing the pump and seal. i think if coolant gets on the rubber belts, it'll deteriorate them faster.

Most likely the water pump and/or seal although 40,000 km (25,000 miles) isn't a whole lot. Do you add coolant (how often)? Just be careful because overheating is a no-no! My bet is the seal.

it's your water pump.

when it's cold the seal contracts and coolant leaks past it. when it's hot the seal expands and seals it up so no leak.

if you let it go it'll leak all the time...hot and cold.

If it makes you feel better, mine is doing the same thing. Dripping on the pass side, off the pass control arm. I am nearing 120K, so I need to have the tbelt and water pump done-but I will also look at the hoses. I've had a slow loss, but I have noticed it running an inch?? low in the radiator itself-so I recommend checking your radiator tank when cold.

That's what I figure... Bad, when it is cold and not much at all when hot.... about 50 ml a day
