New user!

Greetings all.

New user, and new Maxima owner. I got a decent condition 1989 maxima for 1.00 !!

So first thing I did was go about finding toys for it. I found this forum while googling for ground effects, instrumentation etc.

Did a search on eBay, and ended up getting a few toys to spice up the "family" car.

First official purchase was a Gauge replacement, reverse Halo or something to that effect.

I was looking for something really wicked looking in the way of ground effects kit, but all I have found so far look kinda tame. I've bookmarked about a dozen sites tonight. One rather interesting one was a 9 page profile of some guys white Maxima, with lots of pics and parts info. (a user here)

I read quite a few threads tonight, I never realized this car was that popular.

My Maxima is what I consider a really nasty looking Gold/dull color, black cloth interior.

No dents, no rust. Interior is pretty much perfect.

Basically I plan on turning this mediocre looking car into a killer ride.

Just wanted to pop in and introduce myself and say hi.

EDIT: Oh yeah, of the kits I saw, this one is my favorite so far:

Kaminari, good choice. Some day we can be twins.

Oh yeah, I can kinda help you with the gauge install. I've done it myself. It's not as easy as you'd think. You're in Orange County?

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm in Orange County.

The gauges appear to be a template or something. They replace or cover the black finish on the original with a white or light colored surface, at night, the look black and the numbers glow blue with red marks that also glow.

Kaminari? so that was the kit name, ok. I like the way it was styled, I also saw the Stiller? or whatever it was that a number of people seemed to like, but it wasn't striking enough for my liking.

I was browsing the web last night until 2am checking out parts

I'm thinking 17" or 18" wheels, Racing style brake kit and beef up the suspension front and rear.

Performance wise, not sure yet. I'm going to replace the computer module with the Jet upgrade and Jet VForce control module, GTech Performance monitor. and I am still looking for instrumentation that mounts on the window frame.

Have not decided on a stereo system yet, have not had tiem to look, but DVD player, dash monitor and rear mounted LCD's behind the head rest are a definite.

I'd like to replace the grille with a chrome mesh, but have not found one yet.

And for paint, since I hate the color that is on it, I'm looking at Black with clearcoat and airbrushed flames.

Okay, about the flames. Not like the older style tacky looking flames. I saw a show on Discovery Channel(?) called Overhaulin'. There is this guy that airbrushes the most incredible looking 3D type flames I have ever seen. They are subtle, and very slick looking. And the guy is local to southern california. Probably expensive as hell, but the look is worth it if I decide to stick to that plan.

No idea what I want to do with interior yet. Most upgrades I have seen involve black/Grey with a very bright colored accent. Yellow, Red, Blue etc. So I guess I have to decide on a general interior theme before I commit to new seats.

As of yesterday when I picked up the car, I had no clue it was a popular hobby car. The brakes were basically shot, so I did a quick pad job on them to get by, while I looked for new rotors for it. Of course I went to eBay, my favorite place to shop for everything. I found a pretty hefty looking set of rotors and racing calipers with bembro cross drilled rotors for a reasonable price and I am ordering those today.

Like I said, they are extremely subtle. Here is a pic of the guy doing the flames, very subtle, they blend with the car.

Flames.

Oh, and because someone asked, Special Effects work pays really well.

My Main ride is a recent model Jaguar.

EDIT: Just curious, where did you get the blackout across the taillights in that picture in your sig? If I go black, that would be a cool mod.

I like ghost flames in the right design...not sure about regular type of flames (you know orange, yeallow, red) on a 3rd gen.

On an old hot rod thats a different story.

To each their own I guess.

They are far less tacky than the currently popular types of ground effects packages that grace Honda's, Mitsubishi's and similar types and I prefer something that stands out just a bit.

I remember when I had aspirations for my car like you, but it seems like you have the money to actually support your ambition. If you got the cash then the sky's the limit

heh heh, yeah it pays to have a great job!. My other project car is a 65 Jaguar I'm restoring to original condition.

I needed to get a "family" car since I have 4 boys, and my wife was ****ed at my last car purchase not having enough space for everyone.

I ended up getting the Maxima for a buck, from a buddy of mine. Since it was in pretty good condition, and beat the daylights out of yet another car payment, and it had enough room for everyone, it seemed a good idea.

After driving it, I was impressed with how well it handled and that it had so much power.

Honestly it would not have been my first choice for a street machine, but after looking at some of the project cars here, I can see how people got hooked on it.

Actually cost? I got the keys handed to me.

On paper for DMV, the transfer document says 1.00 as in a single george washington. You did indeed read it correctly.
