Introduction/question!

Hey, I've been lurking here for a little while, this is my first post. I'm 18 and bought a 91 GXE from my dad for $700. Car has always been in the family, so it's pretty cool getting it.

It has 140,000miles on the odo, though due to bad care early in it's life, the engine was overhauled, and the current one has about 90,000 miles on it. Transmission has been flushed at the proper intervals (well...whenver the fluid lost it's color), and I've never experience slippage or anything like that...does shift a little rough into 2nd though. I'm gonna keep a close eye on this. Haha, it's pretty funny, problems like the window regulator and such...I guess I've come into here sort of a veteran, because I've been through all that.

I plan on getting the warpspeed mandrel y-pipe to replace the stock pipe...because the pipe is in awful condition. It sounds like ****, and I confirmed it's the pipe, because if you hit it with a hammer, you can hear it rattle inside. Time to change it out.

My question, which I'm sure has been asked before...but the search function isn't working, and I didn't find anything on it on the FAQ pages:

For a afternoon project, I wanted to paint the brake calipers/drums. The drums I'm not really worried about, but the front calipers, I know my friend who drives a 98 Z28 did his, and his front discs screwed up because of heat not being able to escape properly.

I was wondering if any of you had done this with a Maxima, and if you encountered any problems such as that. I'm not going to risk it if it means screwing up my perfectly good brake assembly to make it look a little more pleasing.

Thanks for reading...Later

Welcome aboard....

I have never heard of brakes messing up due to painting (correctly done anyway). If take off the caliper (leaving the line hooked up) and mask off everything else, clean it and paint it, you should have no problems. Just dont get paint on your braking surfaces and you'll be fine.

Good Luck...Joe
