quarter panel fitment

Hey, I have an 89 SE and need to replace the right (passenger) rear quarterpanel. Are there significant changes between the GXE/SE and 89-94 models that would preclude any years other than mine in picking up a panel off a junkyard car?

Cheers,
Neil

Nope they are the same (I put an 89 quarter on my 93)...are you doing the swap yourself? I have done it 2 times on a maxima (my 90 and 93). It is a lot of work...get a good drill and spot weld cutter...oh and a welder.

its a shame it would cost so much to ship because I have 2 passenger quarters. One is pretty straight and the other probably has 2 hrs worth of work needed on it.

be sure and have the junk yard cut it pretty high on the post so you can have plenty of room to match it up where you want to.

Yeah I'll be doing it myself along with my uncle who is a master Ford mechanic, so I have access to a dealership garage with all the requisite tools.

What kind of practice/skill does it take to repaint either the panel or the entire car? I might have to do that after I replace the panel.

you definitely will because you have to remember that the quarter is not a bolt on thing like a front fender or door.

You have to drill the spot welds out and then cut it along the post somewhere.

You have to weld it onto your car and you will at least have to bondo and paint the pillar where you attach it.

I hope youre uncle has some body experience and not just mechanic experience. If not he probably needs to get some advice from the local body man at the dealer.

Its not a tremendiously hard thing to do but if you had a body man to help with some dos and donts it would be helpful.

oh and painting is not that hard either but it takes practice and knowledge. Read up as much as you can on the internet and see if you can get some tips from a local painter.

Good luck...you have a lot of work cut out for you.

oh and check out my website (click the www button under my post).

I have some pictures of where I swapped out my quarter on my 93. They may be helpful.
