Knock sensor

ok, so I just pulled the code 34, which means my knock sensor is bad. I looked on courtesy parts and they are selling the one for 95-99 and the one for VE30DE for a differnt price. I heard that the knock sensor is acutally the same part number "22060-30p00". Do you guys know if its true? Because in that case I can just buy one for 100 bux on ebay or somthing. Thanks for the help!

I just called the dealership. They said that it is the same one. Then I relized it was the same one for most nissans. How long do knock sensors last usually?

Corrosion is what kills the knock sensor (and more specifically, the sub-harness connected to the sensor). It is more of a time-dependent atrophy rather than miles. Also, JRNissan (well-respected Nissan parts dealer on the org) is selling knock sensors for $99 on Ebay. If you replace it, purchase a new sub-harness as well. www.4dsc.com has a good writeup.

I'm not sure how long they are supposed to last but I had a fourth gen that had one go out after about 9 years and my third gen's was bad when I got it, so it lasted about 12-13 years.

I just got done replacing mine last week. I'm assuming you are doing the work yourself so just make sure to order a new harness along with the sensor, that's usually what goes wrong with the VE. I used these instructions and they worked well:

It took me like 7 hours, but that was the second time I had done it and I didn't have to clean any parts.

wow thats a great write up. I hope I don't run into any troubles.

So what would be a better deal? getting the ebay one and buying a harness: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=46098

or going to courtesy and getting both at the same time:

Also where do you guys suggested getting the gaskets and stuff from?

Hey, make sure you get the right sensor and harness, the one you posted the link to was for the 95-99 motor, here is the kit that you need:

I would just order everything from Courtesy at one time and be done with it. Make sure the harness is the correct one because if you use the wrong one you'll have to do it all over again :sigh: You may want to pick up 8-10 cans of carb cleaner to clean that upper and lower plenum and throttle body as well. Some people recommend wrapping the coolant pipe with header wrap as well.

Yeah one thing that I did not take into consideration is the harness, that is why courtesy has differnent prices for all of them. So what does it do when I wrap the collant pipe with header wrap?

Well, the coolant pipe runs right underneath the lower intake plenum and heats it up pretty quickly and in turn heats up the air inside the plenum. If you wrap the pipe with header wrap, it should keep it from heating up as much. I did mine but I didn't have much time to see if it made a difference, but it's worth a try.

I was figuring if mine was bad or not before I bought an oscylloscope and drove for a month with the sensor disconnected. Did not feel any difference in power or fuel economy. My 93 Max is in pretty good shape by the way and has 140 kkms on it.
