Emmisions..what are my odds??
Emmisions..what are my odds??
Ok I have a 93 SE 5 spd. I used to have it registered in a county that didnt need emissions testing yet I kept it parked with me and drove it once in awhile. WELL the stupid HOA has decided if I dont register it in this county since it is parked here then they are going to tow it when they catch it. So instead of playing hide the ride all the time I thought I might take a stab at getting it passed emissions.
What are my chances?? The car has a Stillen Intake, Remus exhaust, and 185000 or so miles on it. What could I do it this coming weekend before I start the testing????
Thanks
Billy

HOA = Home Owners Association, maybe?
Yeah some HOA's stinks, you can't even p!ss in your own driveway without filing for a permit, but back to the subject at hand.
You're biggest problem might be the fact the car isn't driven so often. It's even worst if you drive the car for short distances then park for extended periods of time. Your intake or exhaust mods probably will not effect your reading, not even your high mileage. Your best bet start driving the car more often and get the cat converter nice and hot right before pulling into the emission test facility. This will give you a better chance of buring off any excessive fuel that could be in the cat. converter due to your driving habbits

I'd also run a can of injector cleaner through a couple days before you go in- just to break loose any gunk that'll come off easily..
if you don't pass, you can always go back and fix the problems and test again.. here in houston, it's like $20 for a retest or something. ($40 for the initial).. so if you don't pass the first time, you're only out $20 for the retest.. if you pass the first time, then you've saved all the hassles of spending a day wrenching on the car just to pass inspection.

Yes HOA= Home Owners Association and I wont bother you with what I really think of them!!!!
Thanks guys...I am going to reinstall my radio this weekend and go ahead and get the injector cleaner and clean up some other things on it. I will let you know how it turns out.

wow HOAs can control the registration of your car. that's so odd, but they are odd little outgrowths of developments that weild way too much power.
How did they ever figure out where the car is registered? As long as it has tags, they shouldn't be able to tell.

We have County Stickers in VA...that way they can tell where you pay taxes for your car at and more then likely the HOA has the rule of parking car in the development it must be registered there so that the county can get their money!!! not that it is a whole lot on the maxima compared to my Titan but whatever. I orginially registered at my parents house to avoid the emissions thing but alas it caught up with me

You said the answer yourself... It's exactly because "they are odd little outgrowths of developments that weild way too much power."
Basically, they're in with the cops.. you don't do what they want, they tell on you, and your car gets ticketed/towed.
The way they see is is that they don't want to see a towtruck or cops writing tickets in their neighborhood (makes them look bad), so they do the police work for them.
It also keeps down on the amount of junk cars.. I had a parts car parked at a friend's house for almost a year.. the neighbors *****ed and moaned about it all the time, even though I kept the thing under a cover at all times.. from their view, it was just a car parked outside under a cover- much like another neighbor's 66 Mustang. but since it was a "parts car", it wasn't acceptable. Back to the point... requiring the vehicle to be registered is an easy way to set the rule of "no race cars or parts cars in the area" since they're not registered with current tags and such from the county.
