My '94 SE has a metallic blue paint job. Because of the "flop", it will actually appear to be a different color depending on the lighting and from which direction you are looking at the car. This is similar to the "chameleon" paint jobs that you see on some of the new ford mustangs and other cars, except that it "flops" from a deep blue to almost a black where most of the time the newer jobs "flop" from a light color to a dark color (i.e. pearl to green).

When I purchased the car, it was my impression that this was a custom paint job, but last summer when I hit a deer and had to get the hood and front fendors replaced/painted the autobody shop said this was a factory color and did a pretty decent job of blending it I might add...

I've looked at the factory colors offered for the '94 and this is not one of the options.

Was this actually an option for another year and was done as a custom job to my car?? Does anyone know what this paint code is called? This has been a mystery to me ever since I bought it.

 

Dark Blue Pearl Clearcoat TK3 ?

 

Hmm...well there was only one blue offered in 94 and that is Sapphire Blue (color code: TK3). Most dark color blues (that have metalic and pearl) will do kind of a flop but its not a true flop type of paint. It is just how the light hits the pearl and metalic that causes it to appear to flop.

It is a nice color btw. My favorite factory color.

I had already looked at that link and the sapphire blue description just didn't seem to fit. It appears that this is what it must be, however. Is there anything in the VIN # or is there a color tag somewhere on the vehicle that would have this information?

 

check the plate that's on the firewall..it should say color and have a few digits next to it. If it's TK3 then that's your blue.
