Code scanning

Anybody know of a local parts place (like autozone) that can scan the CPU for codes on an 89 SE. I stopped by AZ the other day and they can only do OBD II.

Or anybody know of a good economical scanner to buy.

they are not economical!
But there are a few:Snap on,Gen sys....
to name a few.
I can't say about the other ones because I've never used them. The snap on one is cool. The Gen sys can befound for about 3 grand used.

Happy hunting!

If you just want to pull ECM (Check engine light) codes, this can be done manually with nothing more than a screwdriver.

The Haynes manual has a write-up on it. I've done it a couple of times, but need to refer to the manual on the procedure.

I'm headed out of town tomorrow morning for the weekend. Give me a PM back if you need the directions and I'll do my best to get them to you before I leave.

scanner prices

I was thinking there were scanners in the $300 range. I know there are systems that you can connect to a lap top, but these are mostly software witha cable .
