speaker pods
speaker pods
yes its repetative but until kev or jane get their stuff strait everything i do times out so i cant search its driving me nuts. neway i was wondering who was making or knew where you can get the 6.5 speaker pods for our 3rd gens. im sick of the puny 4" ones. now that i have a NICE stereo in there im putting in an amp and nicer speakers for some more power (no sub i dont want the extra weight) LOL....
I got mine from James92SE. They fit perfectly and all you need to do is keep the stock bolts that hold the Bose pod in place.
Here are what mine look like:

I have had them in there for about a year and they have held up nicely. I have Diamond Audio speakers in them and zero problems with the pods.

I can't see why they wouldn't fit, everthing is the same size. You might have to find some screws that will hold them in (hardware store), but IIRC, the holes are already there.
I am not 100 percent sure, so you had better ask James.

That's just what they put in there. The place where those 4x6's go is the same place where the 4" speakers go with the Bose. It's the same door. A 6.5" speaker also fits in that same spot if you space them right, just like in my car. You could also fit a 5.25" speaker in the same location. (James will make that for you, if you want, BTW).
Why not make your own, that is, if you have the time? With a pencil, saw, drill, and some readily available hardware store materials, it should be pretty easy. Take a piece of cardboard, trace out the shape of your door hole, or OEM speaker pod to use at a stencil. Then take a piece of MDF, wood, or whatever other material you might want to use, and trace that shape onto the material. Then, take the speaker you want to mount, and trace that shape onto your material, and cut it out appropriately. That way you can make sure your speaker will fit exactly how you want it. Also, you may need to measure the depth of the speaker to see if it will fit inside the door, if not, extend the mounting flange similarly to how it's done in the pictures of James' pods above. Depending on how the speaker mounts, you might want to put some foam rubber in between the speaker and the pod to make sure it doesn't vibrate too much, and seats well.
