Is this a transmission problem?

My friend has a 93 max, and i don't know the mileage.
When they step on the gas (the car is going about 25mph) the speedometer doesn't go any where but the tach goes all the way to 7. They let off the gas to let the tach down and try to slowly accelerate but it takes two or three times to get the car to go faster.

Do you all think this is transmission related or something else.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like a slipping transmission (somebody said wiring problem - wtf?).

First of all they should check and make sure the fluid level is up to par - that can cause a transmission to slip. If it's low top it off and see if that helps, and if not the transmission is most likely on it's way out. $1-2k for a rebuild
