BUYING a Thermostat

I have decided to change my thermostat for my 90 GXE. I just dont know which one to get. There are two types: 170 degree, and 180 degree. Which do I get??? Also whats the best brand: Stant, Prestone, etc.?????
Where would be the best place from dealer or from pep boys or kragen?Nissan seems to be cheaper than Stant and Prestone ($20-25) Which is better? Nopi also has a MOTOROD one for $8 http://www.nopionline.com/nopistore/...0Maxima%201990

I called 3 dealerships Santa Monica, Gardena Nissan, and Power Nissan Torrance

Gardena Nissan said it cost $18.12 part# 21200V5015
Santa Monica Nissan said $17.99 part# 2120085V
Power Nissan Torrance said $18.82 part# 21200V7206

What are these dealer guys saying, are they the same part???? im confused....

Also for Oil Filters, whats the best one, i read the really long thread, but could someone just tell me whats the best one for my car, with part #plz. I am currently using bosch from expressautoparts.com, hows that?? i think its better than fram. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ALL THE INFO EVERYBODY

I don't understand why 3 dealers are each coming up with a different part number. I would make sure they are looking up the proper one for your car. The temperature thing, 170 or 180 is not that important to the average driver. It refers to the temperature that the engine water will be kept at. in real hot climates and hard driving you want the lower temperature. In the north in winter you want the higher temperature. For average driver me, I go with the high temperature therostats. We have our share of 100 degree days here in Texas and I run a 200 degree thermostat. The higher the water temperature, the less pollution the car will produce.

Well like Dennis said, get the temp based upon your area. Well being L.A. it really matter which temp you get. But for traffic reasons, i'd go with the 170. As for which one to get. I'd say nissan, so if something comes out wrong from it, you might be a little bit covered.

As for oil filter, I can only say this. Any Name brand is better than FRAM!
