how does he know if his 92 nissan max se 5 spd has posi?

actually it is called VLSD (viscous limited slip differential) on the Maxima and it probably does have it, since it is a VE. I think most of them did have it.

There is a way to check on the firewall info tag, but I can't remember what it is...

If the transmission code on the firewall plate ends in a "V", then it has the VLSD.

Posi is a now generic term for a Limited slip Differential
it originated from GM's Positraction units
but that's mostly a muscle car terminology, no an import one
