350 KM (driving at 90Km/h for 95% of the time) with my old o2 Sensor.

But I'm getting a new one (for some unrelated problem) and I can't wait to see what this one brings.

What's the deal?

I think there should be a third set of mpg...

MPG highway. MPG City......and MPG for people who get to destination before car warms up.

I get 15mpg and most of my driving the car is just getting warm as I get to my work...or it sits in my driveway and warms up and wastes more gas.

I took it on a road trip and got 28mpg all highway.

16-18mpg city. 22-25 HWY. gonna change the O2 sensors ONE of these days. passenger control arm bushing is blown so it's causing a slight pull also ruining my mileage.

it all depends on your driving.
if you are doing 70-80 miles a day NOT delivering pizza then yes it is bad, if you ARE delivering pizza then it is within reason

my 92se A\T gets like 17mpg ,
my 91se M\T ,the odometer works off and on so its hard to tell
but its better than my 92 gets,im guessing its like 23mpg
and my 93 nissan TRUCK -M\T w\ vg30 gets like 18mpg probably due to the low gearing ,I usually am delivering pizza when seeing these numbers though , i drive all of them alternatly .i also noticed the difference of the 3 different vehicles fuel gauges sweep speed and how the different low fuel lights act

How or why are you running 4cyls?

i average 360 miles to 15gal in the winter, 380 to 390 on 14.5 to 15 in summer.
my take always reads empty at 15 gals even thought its an 18.5 gal tank. i figured this is normal but sometimes it says empty at 13 gals. been that way for 6 years now.

i push my GXE hard but never god worse than 19 mpg! wow you guys must realy thrash that little engine!

dang... if that's highway then that's not very good. I did 496 miles on a tank once, from Xenia Ohio, to Raleigh. If it's city/mixed and automatic, then it's not as bad as it sounds.

I own an 02' Maxima ... you guys have problems with the O2 senssors going bad? I get around 400mi on mine. I changed 3 ... those sensors, when they go bad will make the car get crappy gas milage. Earlier I read that someone was going to see how many miles they could get out of a tank by running the car out of gas .. isn't that bad for the fuel pump?

dunno about the FP, but the owner manual warns about doing that because it can damage the catalytic converter. I don't particularly care about my catconv anymore, since I don't have to have emission inspections (safety only).. but some states require emission inspections for ALL cars.

i never heard of it hurting the cat. dunno how it would, i know it can suck up alotta crud in the tank and deposit in the lines.

running to empty frequently will damage the pump by causing it to overheat.

No its a mix of highway/city and i have a 5spd. my #1 and #3 cylinders arn't getting fuel and like some people i love to launch occasionaly from the stop sign or play catch up with another max on the highway that passes me

Not sure when / if i'll replace the 2 injectors ....or get all 6... buy new.... pickapart..... I'm straped for cash and $70 bucks per injector is pricey right now.

i have a couple of good injectors that will work on a VE if you want to buy them. they were on my old VG motor so you will have to take them out and use new o-rings

yes, if you go heavy enough, wide enough, and aggressive enough.
but right now it's the cold killing your mpg.

but really small tires can hurt your MPG too, cuz it'll take more RPM out of the engine to go the same speed. Your speedo would be off too.. so it would say 80 and you might only be doing 74, on a small tire. I am going 81 when mine says 80, cuz i have slightly oversize tires to offset the shorter Final Drive of the VE-5 tranny compared to the VG-5 tranny that i used to have.

the actual MPG won't change much.
a narrower tire will help mpg too.

I have gotten up to 31mpg in the past. On a road trip yesterday I only mustered 24-25mpg. The engine doesn't run quite as smooth as it used to, and I am having a hard time figuring out why...

Think about it, if i am going, lets say 55mph on the speedo, but i am really only going 50-51 mph, that's not a big difference in engine speed.

100-200rpm... but i think we can all agree that there's far too many factors involved in fuel economy to call heads or tails on this

whens the last time you've seafoamed, if ever? I'll put about 1/3 a can of seafoam in the oil, and 1/3 through the brake booster. and Ill run the car for a few hundred miles and change the oil. Seems to make the engine feel a little more responsive. Just a thought.

seen gas prices lately? even though they are going up I'd say now is the time to start using the tires / wheels that you like before it goes back up to $5 a gal.

fuel level is about right. pretty much matches mine.
are you driving til it dies, determining that "20 miles or so"? I could probably put another 75 when mine is on "E," but always fill up at 1/4 to prevent any possible crap getting sucked into the fuel pump sock.
I have never seen my light come on, either. There's a test for it in the FSM, but I never bothered to try it out.

raw gas smell can be because the car is running rich (needs a tuneup), busted vent line ($2 fix), or a loose line in the engine bay somewhere (least likely, but most dangerous)

I get maybe 20 mpg, but with a slightly heavy foot it can be kinda hard. But then wheres the fun in driving a car if you can't enjoy it.

i did a full ignition tune up
plugs, wires, coil, cap and rotor and still no improvement
also have a raw gas smell was told gas cap could be problem bought new one and no change
also i think me gas guage could be messed up cause when my car is on E i put 11 gallons in and it took it to the 3/4 mark please if someone has any real good fixes for me to try please PM me it would be greatly appreciated

problems don't get fixed by pm.
when you say you put 11 gallons in it, did you top it off, or not?
because 11 gallons from e to 3/4 is about right. if you didn't top if off, you're being silly, worrying about nothing.
best way to find your mpg is to top the tank off, reset the trip meter (or hand write the mileage down in a note pad). Next time you get gas, fill it up, again. note how many miles it took, note how many gallons it took.
I haven't met a stock gauge accurate enough for that kind of math, so don't rely on the needle for a precise number, especially when you're already questioning whether it's working or not.

every time i fill up i reset it and i keep getting the same results 12-14 city
for a car that has 143k on it would replacing the o2 sensor on it make a big difference since it looks like the original one that came with the car cause of how rusted it is plus i dont have a check engine light come on for replacing it and the cat looks brand new

i used to have a neon and it had a floater that was visible on it does the maxima fuel pump have a floater on it somewhere and could the guage be messed up that it is not getting the right signal

i drove it 40 miles on E still no light and i put 15 gallons in it and it started coming out of the filler tube now i know something has to be wrong anybody in the allentown PA area that would be willing to look at it for me

filling up, and gas coming out is a freaky *****, eh? when it happened to me, I nearly shat myself.
ended up being the busted vent line I mentioned before (again, it was literally a $2 fix). repairing that will help (not fix) the bad mpg issue.
