[FONT=Comic Sans MS]Hey all again. I have a question about my antena. Or should I say that I dont have a radio. I am guessing its the antena. How would you go about looking or figuring it out if it is indeeded the antena. I get a few stations but barely. Anyone else have this problem? Another question: how hard would it be to replace front speekers? Thanks in advance

 

i had a similar experience with radio station signal strength. go to www.4dsc.com/articles/exterior/index.shtml
it contains the necessary info on how to fix the power antenna. i found it helpful as it told how to remove the antenna, which i scrapped in favor of a fixed, rather than a power one...your choice. while at 4dsc.com you'll find other useful articles, such as one explaining exactly how to remove your door panel for example. from there front speakers can easily be swapped out. i've found from most forum posts that stock wiring and speakers are scraped in favor of bigger, better, faster louder......

 

What kind of non-power antenna did you replace it with (make and model)?

 

i used a black cheapo universal (ball adjustable) antenna i found at fleet farm, i've seen the same make at checker , autozone and walmart. don't remember the exact make and model will try to get it soon. like i said cheap, about $10 if i recall correctly. wasn't exactly what i wanted, but it works well. i didn't want the ball, but am still looking for a donor for just a flat mount. i think most gm cars of the '80's had them.

 

Well I pulled out the old power antenna that had bit the dust and replaced it with a black, retractable manual one. I got the Metra antenna 44-UL15B, a one size fits all universal. It cost about $12 and took a half hour to install (mostly for removing fake mouse fur in the trunk to get at it). It comes with a standard male antenna jack. I can't remember if I changed to a standard connector last time I changed the power antenna or not, so if you have the standard odd sized connector you may have to change it or buy an adaptor, but those are available.
I was able to install it at a rakish angle and it fit well and looks nice. I won't have to putz with the electric one ever again.

 

Do you get good reception with yours? I did the same, but am getting lousy reception. I'm sure it has to do with grounding the antenna to the car. Did you solder a wire to a point? I know mine can do better because when I was intalling it noticed that moving it slightly would give a much stronger signal.

 

you have me ! My power antenna is down all the time cause its broken and my signal streangh is great. However i have a pioneer DEH-P760mp. I junked the bLose.
