what size are door speakers on a 1990 GXE. No Bose. The rear speaker cover read "active speaker" they were like 6.5"

what size are the doors????? some sites say 4x6, but i dont trust them cuz they told me that rears were 6x9 and they were 6.5

thanks in advance..

yea, i was fooled by the people with bose audio so i got 6x9 for the rear only to find it didn't fit... it took a lot of work to finally make it fit.

anyway, the door ones are 4x6 for non-bose maximas.. i've had it changed about few weeks ago.

non-bose = 4x6 in the front and 6.5 in the rear.
do yourself a favour and fab up a 6.5" adaptor out of wood or plastic.
4x6 speakers sound terrible.
i did it when i started to upgrade my system and it sounds great.

I had to do a little fabbing to the bose housing but im running some 4 inch boston acoustics and they sound awsome their on a amp but they have very little base running through them.

yea, 4x6 does sound a little weak, and so does 4s..

the 6x9s were definatly worth the work of getting them on tho. u need an amp or deck that has enuf power to drive them too.

if the door wasn't too shallow i'd fab up some 6x9 for the fronts as well...

James92SE builds and sells nice speaker pods to fit 6.5s in the front. I have some and I highly recommend them.

If you don't have Bose in the rear and want 6x9s, you could probably find a set of the rear Bose speaker mounts at a junkyard or possibly from someone with a parts car in the for sale forum. That would save you from being "fooled by the people with bose audio," and having to work really hard to make them fit.
