knock sensor resistor by-pass
does any one know the correct resistance for tricking the computer to think there is no knock ??
****es me off , because i got a brand new knock sensor, installed it, and now, about 6 months later...im getting no reading (should of changed the harness.. is what your saying now i bet )
please help me out with the correct resistance number, my car feels like a honda !!

trust me, id love too....but for the mean time... like i said "its like driving a honda" the timing is too much off to not notice it... im sure you have an idea of what i mean..
come on matt, ill be fixing it this weekend......just dont have the tools until i got to the parents place for one, and i live in a apartment building second...
i know YOU know the resistance matt,,,, give it up.. !! :OP

500 KOhm IMHO
But I second what Matt93SE said!
And also I am not sure you can trick the computer - during normal operation of the KS there is quite a lot of noise in the line and I'd guess that silence will cause the ECU to throw the KS code anyway, but it is only my guess.

mr.gone...
can you please explain in detail how it could damage the engine ?
i understand that the sensor measures changes in pressure, and send a resistance signal to the computer, which adjusts the timing... but if you set your timing with the resistor installed, i dont see how you could wreck our engine.. correct me if im wrong..

who ever this is that screwed their engine....ONLY used the resistor by-pass, .... and no other home made mods, or engine problems...??
i appreciate your advice, but the knock sensor signal cant adjust the timing enough to do serious damage to the engine .,,,
do all cars have knock sensors ??

I wonder what is worse? A Jeffy or a Shawny?

I dont think its worth it to pull a Jeffy™

2. The KS adjusts timing to PROTECT the engine, not to harm it. That is why you have poor performance.
3. lol

im getting "yes" and "no" answers, but if someone could explain further as to who / what it does to the engine...

If you knock and ping- which will happen if you do the resistor mod and don't manually dial back your timing- then you will slowly burn holes in your pistons and blow chunks off the combustion chamber from the inside of the engine. not good. wish I had some pictures of an engine I saw that died from knocking.. there were literally holes melted in the pistons and big pieces missing from the quench pads on the head.
that's why you don't bypass the knock sensor. It isn't a performance adder/remover, it's a guard against the engine self-destructing itself.

Also if you do the TEST procedure, you'll also need to run 93 octane which I know around here is 20 cents more per gallon. so take that into account too, and don't forget labor on the replacement motor
