Buying new shocks/struts

I'm debating between Tokico performance shocks and KYB GR-2 shocks for my 92SE. Which would you recommend? Also, when buying new shocks, do you have to get new boots/mounts too? If you don't have to, is it recommended? Thanks.

what is the big problem guys? Somebody can't ask a question without being disrespected? And I did scroll down and look after I read your smartass reply, and I didn't find any question like the one I asked.

LOL, I just put up a thread about Suspension product search. Plus I did a thread about a month ago on those 2 same struts. I got a 50/50 response on the struts. But everyone had the same thing to say. Keep your reciept, cause the seals go withing a few months.

Give the guy a little break. He's new after all.

For some other suspension goodies, check out Matt Blehm's site.

I plan on it, just because I got a feeling that the whole suspension on my car is original. It's up to you really, but I would have to say it's a good idea to change them. That way you don't have to do it later on.

well,
i have the kyb gr2 struts and i'm not too impressed with them. i've heard better things about the tokico blue struts for 3rd gens, so i'd advise you go for them. 4th gen guys have problems with tokico blues blowing pre-maturely on them. but apparently the oil used in the 3rd gen tokico struts is better than the 4th gen tokico struts.
keep in mind neither of these struts is any good for performance. they are simply just oem replacement struts. the best strut you can get for the 3rd gen is koni yellows and they're pricey. even the koni yellows aren't that great.

i wish we could get some tokico illuminas

ok, so then the konis are for performance? Why do you say they aren't that good?

well the koni yellows are better than the tokico or kyb struts available for our rides.
however koni yellows are the entry level koni strut. i'm sure they're still decent but they aren't spectacular. the struts available for our cars just don't offer enough damping(sp?). it depends on what type of driving you do. if you plan to go auto-x'ing or lapping i'd stock up on suspension goodies from blehmm co. because springs and shocks aren't going to be enough. make sure you save some money for decent tires too. tires will make the biggest difference so don't cheap out on them.
if you just need to replace your struts and want to lower the car for a better look, then you'll be fine with the tokico blues or koni yellows.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Konis available for our cars are red, not yellow.

Do you own Konis? Because this picture is from Matt93SE's site:

yeah i don't want to get entry level OEM replacement struts. I want performance struts. And I hear the Tokico blues are performance struts, at least that's what it says on their website

Um... you sure about that? Mine are red. Everyone else's konis for the 3-gens are red. Yellows aren't even available. Please show me where the Yellows are available and I'll look into it.

Reds are adjustable and outperform the KYBs and Tokicos by a large margin.

Please get your facts right before stating incorrect statements.

Because someone was talking out of their **** about the Koni Reds and needed to be set straight. Why? Becuase someone ELSE just recently took this newbie's advice and bought shocks (ie.. paid out $300 -ish) on incorrect information.

I don't blame you. I hate bad info.

Red Konis = Koni Special. Sometimes black apparently, but ours should be red.

Yellow Konis = Koni Sport. Not available for 3rd Gens AFAIK.

The Special is the "entry level" Koni, but according Tirerack's interesting Koni page that is only true IF they offer both a Special and a Sport for an application. In our case that implies that the Specials have more overlap into the stiffer range of the Sports then. http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/k...ialvssport.htm

Thanks my Canadian friend. That makes sense as even at 1/2 adjustment, they are about as stiff or stiffer than the non-adjustable Tokicos. At 3/4 or full stiff, they are MUCHO stiffer than the Toks
