Coolant Temp. Sensor???

ok guys i need help on this problem that im havin' right now. my radiator fans stopped working since last week. i haven't used the car since cuz of Hurricane Frances and of course i didn't want to overheat my car. anyways i checked all the relays and fuses and they were all good. now heres the thing thats been buggin me to know if its true or not??? i was told that if i unplug the coolant temp. sensor the fans will turn on and stay on and that will let me know that the sensor is bad and has to be changed??? is that true or not. thats what i did to my car but i don't want to drive my car like that at all so im just gonna leave it parked until i can findout if it is infact the coolant temp. sensor thats messed up. so just to recap everything:

True or False
By unplugging the coolant temp. sensor the fans will turn on and stay on and that could mean that the sensor itself is bad???

So guys i really need ur knowledge on this to determine if in fact my coolant temp. sensor is bad.

thanks,
rick

I guess these cars are like GM, they switched the fan through the computer.
