Se..gxe..4dsc?
Se..gxe..4dsc?
So I've been looking throught the 1989 brochure for the 3rd gen that another member on here sent me a while back, (scanned pics coming very soon!) and it has a lot of good information, but something in it is wierd...As far as I've known the 3rd gen only came in 2 trim levels, SE and GXE...according to this brochure it keeps claiming that there is a 3rd trim level, "4DSC." As far as I can tell it's merely an SE, just one with ABS, I'm still kind of looking for any more claimed differences...for some of you guys that might have bought your 3rd gen new...anyone have any information on this? I thought it was rather interesting...
I know the whole thing about the "4DSC", but didn't ever think it was a trim level...I've got a sticker on my car.
I'm pretty sure every 3rd gen should have come with a "4DSC" sticker, but this brochure claims its an actual trim level. In a paragraph about the SE; "And if you're looking for still greater performance, look to the Maxima 4DSC. It features Nissan's anti-lock braking system (ABS) as standard, and a stiffer, sport-tuned suspension. The only way you'll remember that this car is a 4-door is by the number of people you take along for the ride."

My maxima doesn't have that sticker on it, it is definately not a trim level though. Prolly a marketing thing like someone stated earlier. Check out this site http://www.4dsc.com/articles/general...mparison.shtml
4dsc is not a trim level for the maxima. The "4dsc" was part of a marketing campaign in the early 90"s by nissan to get people who have families, but still wanted a car that was fast, handled good, and would still haul the family around in comfort.
it's possible that in 89 they were planning on making the 4dsc a trim level, but the decided it wasn't worth the trouble so just made it a moniker instead. that sh it has been known to happen.
it happened in the 70s to a number of cars, a few even got ordered before the companies decided to drop it.

now that I look back, I'm wondering why
