You mean there aren't any 5.5 6M Maximas between New Jersey and Seattle?

Could you possibly find one farther away?

Maybe there is one with 80k miles in Hawaii you can go look at.

If you go to the Jet Blue website, they fly from JFK in NY to Seattle and it costs around $170 for a one-way ticket. Good luck.

I can't believe that there isn't a 5.5 gen 6-speed in Jersey. How did you "stumble" upon this one? Seems like overkill to travel 2000 miles for a Maxima. A Supra or a classic car, maybe, but not a 5th gen. My $0.02.

too much money. look around some more.

if you are attached to it, then the car is nice, actually.
mileage i don't care about much. who cares. especially if
it is highway miles. if the car isn't ragged out, then maybe
it's good. i would consider an older 5th gen, though. cheaper.
and there are older ones out there with less miles if mileage is
an issue. like if it was thrashed.

For $18,000 you can get yourself a real nice BMW such as a 97-98 M3, the 4 door sedan is usually cheaper. If you weren't aware, going from a 3rd gen to 5th gen is down grade. Be smart if you want to change go to something worth it, not a 5th gen .

it is a lot of $$ IMO, but it does have NAv, which was a 2K option.

if you truly want to upgrade find an AWD subie or audi with turbo.

Only upgrade from Subaru would be new Legacy turbo. The STI, WRX although have good performance, don't have the interior fit/finish that maxima has. The new Legacy will put him back $30k at least

Audi turbo? Interior nice, performance nice. Paying for the TT replacement when the do go bad? (and they WILL go bad) Literally priceless. A decent Audi 2.7TT sedan will put him back at least $22-24k. Add a few thousand for the extended warranty.

Used M3 or 1997 1998 540i, the interior handling and power will be much better than a maxima. BMW's are great cars, parts aren't that bad and usually nothing breaks on them.

Really now. Add the cost of buying that car + the insurance rate for someone under 23 years old and see how cheap it is over the course of 5 years.

hey thanks for all the feedback guys...i found that car because its near IMPOSSIBLE to find a 5.5 gen with those listed options (all of them) im picky when it comes to cars. I wont pay for something if an optino is missing that i want. I dont think anyone pays for something they dont want. However the guy called me back and its sold already. he said the car was on the lot only 2 weeks and it was GONE. all well. never looked into an M3. but ill entertain the thought......ill do some homework......thanks guys !

m3 5spd or 540i 6spd are close in performance and price although the 540i is alittle higher in both catigorys

m3 5spd 14 @99mph

540i 6spd 14 @ 103mph!!!!

5.5 6spd 14.4 @ 97mph

so the 540 is quite abit faster and if you want more speed there is a SC that gets it into the low low 12s at 120mph

but i can see why you want a 5.5gen and by all mean go for it

keep in mind the german price tag for parts and labor. you don't want to go there at all. nissan is expensive enough as it is.

subs, thanks for that list of comparisons. that is interesting. those 1/4 times are actually not very impressive. i thought the M3 would at least do 13s. those cars are probably really heavy. supercharger to low 12s is nice.

Well for one thing I've dealt with a lot of BMW's and let me tell you that a supercharger is not the way to go on a Inline 6 motor, causes a lot of drag, turbo is the way www.aatuning.com. Two friends AA 99 m3 (stock 200 rwhp, with AA S/C 240rwhp). AA Stg 1 gen III Turbo kit 95 325is (stock 160 rwhp, with turbo 270 rwhp). Parts aren't that expensive at all they are the same as nissan parts. The 540i is a torque monster at 324lbs/trq. and 282hp, yes its heavy but for the 4.4 V8 you can buy the ESS supercharger which in that scenario gives you nice numbers. My personal experience once you drive one you will want one, maybe you should take a 540i for a test drive and compare it to the 5.5 gen, some things I can tell you that I will be much better in, the interior is much nicer, the seats are much nicer, the handling is much better, the power I'm sure is much better and build overall, you will never hear any plastic loose things in the interior. I'm just trying to help you out make a better investment and not just close your eyes to everything else. I for one am seriously considering buying an m3 or 540i and its hard. Good luck with that. Here's a pics of the turbocharged 325is a friend and I did.

Yea but then its not the same price as a 5th gen maxima which is what he's looking to buy, a used M5 is no less than 40k and a 740il isn't as expesive but its up there.

alot of people here are right. i think that maximas are still nice but the third gen is probably the best out of all. and on the 540 talk, i would take a 540 any day over a newer max. no comparison. im sure for around $15k you can find something much nicer than that maxima. especially if you are willing to travel. a couple of weeks ago,i went to california to pick this bad boy up that i got for $6k. turbo swap and everthing.
the deals are out there man. just go out looking for them.

or.. keep your 3rd gen for a daily driver/practical uses and for about ~10k buy a 98+ F body (camaro/trans am) 5.7L LS1 6spd... low/mid 13s stock, in the 12s with bolt ons, t tops, cheaper parts & mods than foreign, fun to drive

theres my .02, carry on

well i already have 2 cars, (93 se 5spd, and 98 altima gxe auto) as much as i would love to get another car i cant afford the insurance on a third car. I had a 1989 trans am GTA black on black leather, t tops fully loaded, 402whp. The L-98 was pulled and sent to a local speed shop for a makeover the 700-r4 was sent to level 10 and build to hold 600 horse. i poured my heart in that car and still KILL myself for ever selling it for the maxima but i had a kid and needed the cash. let me see if i can find a pic sorry its really bad i used my phone camera and its only a .3 megapixel ill find better ones and ill scan them in......
