Speed Sensor Question
Speed Sensor Question
Hey org,
I just pulled the AT out of my 90 Max, learned a thing or two in the process. After taking it out and bringing it down to the tranny shop, the guy who works there is convinced that there is either end play on the flywheel (just checked it out when I got home, it's not there), or it's the torque converter. The torque converter was dated June 2002. So the guy (who happens to deal with the company that made that TC) ended up giving me a new one on warrenty (sweet).
If you guys don't remember, my max was the one that made the knocking noise which we were convinced was the engine until we found out it only made it in Park and Neutral.
Anyways in the process we forgot to unplug the speed sensor. Drop the tranny and the damn thing pops out. Now there is a whole where it should go on the tranny and a white plug dangling over by my right driveaxle inside the car. Here's the money question: did I wreck the speed sensor or is it supposed to look like that? It looks like that if it operates magnetically it would work, but I have no idea how they function on this car. I'd hate to have to replace the thing after the transmission is in the car, for the sole reason that it's just so simple at this point. The round white connector just popped right out of the sending unit when we lowered the tranny jack.
TIA guys,
Fred

There's supposed to be a little plastic gear on the end of it. If you only have a metal 'keyed' shaft sticking out of the sensor, chances are the rest of it is somewhere in your tranny.
Best of luck.
Best of luck.
