Rear Strut Cartridge too long

I'm replacing my struts, and they sent me a cartridge for the rear. I've taken the old apart, and the replacement is about 1/2 inch too long. The retainer won't screw in all the way. The replacement has a spacer ( I guess that's what you call it) on the bottom that won't let the shock go all the way in. Do I have the wrong thing, or is threr some way to remove the spacer. I will really appreciate any help. Mine is a 90 Maxima.

It's fine, just tighten it up hard enough where you won't break the threads. My kybs did the same thing.

you need to use the supplied nut not the original one, it's a common problem with the KYBs

Supplied Nut

The Supplied nut is the same as the original, do you know where I can find a replacement nut that has more depth?

the one from KYB (assuming you bought them new) is different than the original one, but I forget how. we covered this several months back.

What he said. the factory one is different and has an oil seal at the top. the KYB one should just be a large nut with a small hole in the middle. (sorta anyway), but will be physically shorter than the factory one.
