I seem to get 14-17mpg strictly city driving. There are no gas leaks, at least I have never seen any drips of gas after fill ups in my driveway. Car seems to be running strong, pulls nicely and on the freeway its like there is no end to accelerating, haven't tried going faster than 120mph yet. The idle seems fine, it could be rough but if it is its not very rough because it dont seem it to me. I checked the front 3 injectors and they all were like 11ohms or something, coil packs test fine. I hear a whistle around 2-3k while accelerating only(possible intake leak). I cant find a leak anywhere but im not too sure the best way to tell if you have one and where its at.

I was either thinking my knock sensor is bad, causing the timing to be retarded, causing bad fuel economy?

intake leak somewhere is causing poor fuel economy

HMM anyone throw in their 2 cents? anyone know alot about the knock sensor? does it affect gas mileage at all?

you can ohm out the rear 3 injectors just as easily as front 3. Disconnect the rear injector harness connector on top of engine.. it connects to all 3 rears, and has 4 terminals.

check resistance between terminals, keep the multimeeters negative lead on B
BD: No. 1 injector
BC: No. 3 injector
BA: No. 5 injector

What should the resistance be at, and is it the same for the front injectors?

10-14 ohms

front injectors are even easier, you just disconnect each harness and measure resistance across the two terminals on each

On the injector itself? And if the injector is just clogged would it lower resistance or is that a whole other piece of pie? And thanks for the resistances.

No offense, but it could be your driving too. MPG from city driving is always worse than highway, esp. if you try to be the first one off the line or you pass a lot of people between lights.

Mechanically:
1. Brakes, they could be dragging.
2. Tire Pressure, also drags.
3. Alignment, if it's off it also drags. If it's off all over, your steering wheel could still point straight when you go straight.
4. Air filter.
5. Clean your MAF sensor with electrical contact cleaner.
6. Fat passengers.
7. Engine is running rich for any of numerous reasons, but you could smell that in the exhaust.
8. Bad Gas; watered down, etc.

I doubt anything is wrong with your engine or transmission that would pull your mileage down to the mid-teens on its own. If there was such a problem, you would most likely notice it, but you said your car performs just fine. Auto Maximas should get 19-22mpg in the city, maybe lower, so "enthusiastic" driving could theoretically pull it down that far.

I drove like a grandma for a tank of gas, and got 16 mpg. there has to be some sensor or something going bad somewhere....
I hope nothing is wrong with the engine...its a JDM that I have put 3k miles on so far, and a rebuilt tranny, also 3k.
