#1 i have to replace the o-rings on my 90 vg. it seems that the injectors are leaking. i smell gas and see very little wetness around them as well. what is the procedure for checking the injectors themselves? how do i clean them also?

#2 i would like to get a remote start for my 5 speed VE. anybody have any experiences with one. i used to have one. the only thing i didnt like is that if the alarm went off while you were gone, you wouldnt be able to start the car from the remote. i would cancel it out somehow. let me know which one i should get. thanks

#1. On the VG, you have to pull the upper intake off in order to get to the injectors. Once you do that, you have access to pull them and re-seal them, or whatever is necessary. The only test I know of that the average person can do is to ohm them out. I believe the readings for good injectors should be between 10-14 ohms. But, just because they ohm out OK doesn't mean they aren't leaking. Usually it's the seals, but sometimes the injector itself can leak.

Also, another common leak area is the hoses on the fuel rail. While you have it apart, check and make sure those areas are OK.

well i changed one injector last winter and the fuel hoses as well. i just wanted to check the other injectors while i had the upper manifold off. so i would use a voltmeter to check the ohms.? im in the dark about electrical stuff, so bear with me please. thanks

You need an ohm meter to check ohms, a volt meter is to check volts. What a lot of people call a voltmeter is really a MULTI-meter that checks volt, ohms and current. Sometimes they are called a VOM meaning volt ohm meter.

what he said..

also keep in mind, the injector is basically two parts.. there's the electrical part- it's an electromagnet in there that opens/closes a valve. more commonly called a solenoid.
the electric part can be working just fine (showing a resistance of 12-14 ohms), but if the injector is clogged with junk or the brass inside it is corroded from harsh cleaners, the spray pattern will still be off, or not spraying at all.

Yeah... what he said.

...which means, you'll probably need to have them pressure-tested on top of checking resistance (Matt: I thought 10-12 ohms was 'nominal'...)
