I'm working on swapping the 5 speed from a DOHC SE into an SOHC GXE

anyone have any suggestions, experiences, or anything else that would help me out?

Also, anyone know a rought estimat for parts to rebuild the DOHC engine?

Thanks

Well if your working on it sounds like you got it all planned out.

Do you have your parts yet?
We make can help but we have no idea where you are in the project

not sure what exactly you're doing...swapping the tranny or the motor? either way, it's quite a task you've got lined up. If it's just the tranny, you'll need that (tranny) plus the hubs, axles and some other small stuff, not too sure. If it's the motor, ..well...let's just say you'll need a little more than the motor. You'd most likely be better off buying a dohc maxima from the "maximas for sale" section of this site.

ok, let me explain a littl better, I have two whole cars, a GXE auto SOHC with a dead tranny, and a 5 speed DOHC 5 speed that in a car I did a pretty good job of wrecking (wheni get pix I'll post the story) The reason I'm not using the DOHC now is that I crushed the oil pan on some rocks then drove the car home so it was running for 10 or 15 minutes with no oil, So I plan on rebuilding it then swapping that in, but I need a car like NOW, so I'm doing the transmission first

OK now I see! Ok if you got the two cars you got everything that you need exect the VG FLYWHEEL You will need the hubs from the se and the cv axel bracket from the motor. You will have to use the cv axels from the se. You will need the clutch and brake pedal too

OK the 5 speed can be done BUT good luck on trying to swap the dohc into a sohc motor car. Just caught that.

WEll, I'm not even 100% sure that I am actually going to, my original intent was the fix the SE but when i got the intended parts car (the GXE) it was so nice, I decided to convert it cause its gonna be easyer and still give me a car.

I just did a swap and its tough work. The hardest part is going to be cutting the hole PROPERLY for the clutch (so that its not on an angle). The next hardest is just bending lines however since you already have the lines form the VE you should be set. My suggestion would be take an entire afternoon to mount the clutch as once you start cutting holes in the firewall you can't exactly take it back. The rest of it is just like a basic r&r of a tranny. (if you start parting out the VE I would gladly buy the front coils from you )

what did you do about the spaces that stick out of the firewall, did you make new ones or go with out or what?

don't u have to do a re-wire to the VE tranny in order to work with the VG motor??? or would it be the same re-wire that i made to my VG 5-speed tranny so that the car can start??? now is it true that the VE 5-speed tranny stronger than that of the VG auto or 5-speed trannies or am i wrong???

The only re-wiring that you will need to do is for the reverse sensor. You shouldn't need to re-wire anything else. The only thing that could be different is the speed sensor may have a different plug in it but thats no problem. To figure out the reverse sensor wiring I would suggest the use of a chiltons manual as thats what we used.

UPDATE....

Today I cut the hole for and mounted the clutch and master cylender, switched out the break pedals, and I took the automatic shifter linkage off the car..

on a side note, how the hell do I get the shift **** off the manual shifter?
I can't find anything holding it on...

The actual ****? It is screwed on. Just turn it left really hard. It usually kind of "pops" off the first time.
