Electrical Prob

Hi All, I just bought a 91 Maxima a few days ago. My prob is that the radio keeps cutting out. It is an aftermarket head unit (came with the car) that didn't work when I bought it. I started investigating and noticed that the shade tree mechanic who installed the radio had the ground wire grounded to a piece of plastic. After I fixed that, the stereo magically worked! (go figure huh). Anyway to make a long story longer. Ever since I got the radio working the speakers have been cutting out. Not all at the same time, first the back then the front. Then they'll both kick back on. There has been some wacky things that happen to the cars with the bose stereo and speakers right? I have read about this happening to quite a few people. I have 2 speakers that don't work at all and the other do sometimes. Most of the suggestions have been to recheck all the wireing, which I have done several times. I even cut all the wires and completely reinstalled it with no luck. Tonight I noticed something else. When the speakers cut out, my front headlights get really bright and my heater motor blows harder too, well until the radio starts working again. Kinda fishy if you asked me. Anyone have any suggestions???

I had an 88 hardbody that did the same surging with the lights after I replaced the factory alternator. Took the 2nd alty back and got another.........50,000 miles later no surging.

are you using an aftermarket headunit with the stock bose speakers? if you are thats a no-go...you need to get some aftermarket 4ohm speakers (bose runs at 1ohm IIRC) otherwise your HU is gonna die and so will the speakers...the best bose is out of the car and in a box

I was told by a stereo shop that it would be better to replace the whole system at one time becuase of the 4 ohm system and much cheaper. Try finding a good set of stock replacement 4 ohm speakers. I have replaced two speakers from junkyards but they never last.

After I posted this, I read about the speaker prob with a new head unit. I will probably get some new speakers in the near future, but I think i'm still having some sort of electrical problem. Tonight on the way home from work, I had the radio off and I was still having the lights get brighter and the heater blower getting stonger for no apparent reason. Also, when this happend, my E-brake light came on???? kinda wacky. Anyone else have this???
