Car dies at idle when cold?

In neutral/ at a stop light, the idle bounces around a little, and ocasionally dies since we changed the injectors about a year ago. But now, since it started getting cold out (arizona here), it's dying a majority of the itme at stops - unless I rev it.

Could this possibly be a leak in the intake manifold gasket? We tried spraying soapy water on the hoses - no bubbles. Then the carb cleaner - didn't make the engine rev anywhere, but hadn't previously considered the intake manifold.

Any suggestions?

Thanks-

It's idling around 600-700RPMs.. it usually does ok, but ocasionally it'lll bounce down between 2-300 rpms and up a little over 1000 when it's dying..

Vacuum hoses won't bubble-they suck--literally.

Could be the iac valve is dirty.

3 questions:
a. did you replace all the injectors?
b. Were the injectors New, Used, or Reman?
c. were they all the same color dot?

Hmm, it's actually 600RPM's for idle in drive, 700 in neutral. One injector was replaced from a mechanic, I don't know what he used, but it cost $500. (at 5hrs of labor *$65/hr). - and he used new ones he said

Then, I worked at nissan so I got 5 injectors from there, and my friend replaced them for me, all new. But then.. it was dying like this, so I brought it in to nissans mechanics - they found something bouncing around in the upper part of the engine, it looked like a washer beaten and curled up. But they only took apart the top of it, and fished around inside for the stuff - yes, the last time I let that friend do that for me :-p Cost me an extra $100 over having trainerd techs to do it in the first place.

And it's a GXE -

Thanks-

I've been fighting this exact problem now for over a year...it's frustrating! You take it to a mechanic and the problem is so intermittent that they can't duplicate it, let alone find it. Or..parts are so expensive that you can hardly afford to diagnose it yourself and just start replacing things...

Here is the shopping list of possible causes that I've compiled from other threads on this forum:
MAF
IAC
Coil packs
O2 sensor
ECCS/Engine Controller Relay

To this list I've added the possibility of the Knock Sensor which, when it is bad, causes the ECM to retard the timing (aka "safe mode"). It seems to me that this logically could also be causing the engine to die as well.

Not much help here, I guess but, if you're looking for a magic answer, I can tell you that after 5 months on this forum I haven't heard it yet... As with most car problems, if you are a DIY like me, it's a matter of trial and error, testing the possible components and then making the best educated guess.

Does anyone have any other possible causes to add to this list?

does it only stall or try to stall when idling or does it try while accelerating and cruising too?? if so, i had a similar problem for a while and found out it was the cam sensor. had to have the whole distributor replaced.

but if not then i would say the iac valve then, that seems like the most possible thing to me. good luck
