Problem with Max
This morning 1993 GXE car won't shift from park after brake depressed, charge warning light on, O/D light doesn't work. All happened at one time. Smelled burning wires night before didn't associate it with car until this morning. Drove car today by pressing in red release button. Lights and everything else works. Alternator belt okay. If this was answered before please point out, couldn't find. Any help appreciated before I go to the dealer. (by the way the speedometer/tack/temp gauge stopped too)Thanks

Dealer mechanic disconnected the brake/auto shift electonics/solenoid mechanism for 50 plus some burnt out fuses that solved guage problems not working. Otherwise, cost to fix 650. I have to use shift release button from now on, much cheaper.

odd.. problem did u check ur tail lights.. most of the time they short out, because of the wires are melting and hitting a ground. they would blow the stoplight fuse i think, and pervent u from shifting out of "P"
- go check each taillight bulb.. i bet thats the problem, but the "dealer" should know of this problem.... whatever... id check it anyway

I saw the dealer's mechanic checking out the rear brake lights. I talked to him and he was very thorough in examining the problem. He conversed with fellow experts and they were convinced it was the brake release system. So thanks, I'll check out the lights but everything appears to be okay. I'll have to live with the release button problem. Car has 180 k. Not buying a new car.
