Threw a rod, how much can I expect from junk yards?

I have called several shops and the lowest quote I got for a rebuild was 4000 and all the shops who want to put a different engine in would be putting in another one with over 100k.. no thanks. So I'm getting rid of it and getting another car. Is there any way a junk yard is going to give me even 500? Everything else is still in great shape, including a clutch that has about 2 miles on it and the fixed vtc problem Is there anyone that would be interested in buying this car besides junk yards? I'm sure someone has the tools and space neccesarry to do the job, and I would try if I wasn't in college. This really makes me mad because it was my first car and I bought it with my own money.

perhaps you can get a lower mileage used engine swapped in.

UNLESS you're p1ssed at the car and you don't want it anymore..then a junk yard might give you $500.

I'd give you $500 if the rest of the car was very clean. Forget the used bone yard motors unless you find a low miler. Try an engine importer and buy a low miler JDM VE30DE. Will cost you $800-$1100 and another $500-$700 for the install. But you will have an engine that will last another 100k fairly easy.

I wish I had room to buy it and do something with it, but I already have two cars and only space for one.
If you do end up giving it to a junkyard, maybe I could get the fixed VTCs from you (I'm in Duluth in Gwinnett County)

I would part it out but I'm at college and I dont have a garage or anything. Tech is in downtown atlanta so if I say, took a door off or something, my car would be gone the next morning. Plus I dont have anywhere to keep it, parking would get mad at a frame sitting in their lot.

I will definately post where I junk it, if I do.

Where would I find an engine importer? I swear I called every shop within 10 miles of downtown.

MrGone, the link would be appreciated

The wierd thing is most shops dont know about these importers. I asked my mechanics where to get a imported VE and he had no idea there was such a thing.

You have to look for an engine importer. There has to be one in or near Atlanta. I picked one up for $650.

GT EE '03 here - I'll trade you all my EE work and senior design report for your car j/k (kinda)

I lived in homepark for a couple years down there and never had anyone break into my car luckily, but saw several other cars that were broken into in that area. Definitely wouldn't last long if it didn't have doors.

I am not too excited about repairing it, besides the high cost, something else will just break with my luck. ex: The transmission doesn't feel very smooth anymore, and never has as long as I've had it. It's time to get a newer and/or more reliable car.

I don't own a copy, I live in the dorms. I'm pretty set on getting a new car anyway.

For those of you that sent me private messages, I will go out and take pictures of the car today. They should be up in about 2 hours. The body is in good condition, the leather is sun-worn in a few spots, same with the paint on the bumpers. There might be one or two scratches low on the body but nothing major and no dents. One of the fog lights is broken though. If you are interested in the car though you need to contact me by tomorrow midday. Best if you could leave me a phone number in an email (tyler.weston@gmail.com). Mine is 817 881 9424 (ask for Tyler). The shop wants the car out of their lot and I need to get rid of it. The car is at Howell Mill and 75 if you want to come see it (2 miles north of Tech).

The pictures are up at http://www.prism.gatech.edu/~gtg606q/car/.

Some more info: it's a 5 speed, and has tires from NTB that I got a year ago and have lifetime balancing/rotating/whatever free. There is a picture of them, they have plenty of tread left.

The only scratch I could really find is here. Sorry about the picture quality as its been drizzling all day.
