Transmission cooler/extending transmission life?

What would be the best way to extend the transmissions life? I got my car at 142k mi, the transmission went that week. I got it replaces for 2.1k, but now they have it leaking... and it's been that way since I got it back -30k miles ago / after taking it back 2x. But since it's going to obviously keep on leaking, whats a way to ensure it probably won't go out before/if I reach 300k mi?

step #1.. fix the leak.

step #2. don't drive hard.

Step #3.. when it fails again, replace it with a 5 spd.

I agree with internetautomar. If my parents didn't pay for my tranny I'll be doin a swap for sure.

I'm not positive now - orginally they said it was the dipstick gsket and the main one, but I took it back to the mechanic once (almost completely ran out of fluid in less than 2 months after paying 2.1k for a rebuild!), and that slowed it, but about a year later, it was dry!! took it back again, and now it's leaking really slowly, but down to point where I'm goign to have to add another 1/2 quart :/ I need to keep checking on it more often, becuase sometimes I check it, it looks fine, then a coupel days later, it's below where it should be. Don't want to loose the transmission :/

Also... lately I've been shifting in top neutral to coast to stoplights.. mileage went up from 19/20mpg to a bit over 25... but would that cause extra stress on the transmission, shifting to nuetral, then back to drive, Vs. just letting it shift through the gears? I'm seriously going to reccomend it if it's not bad for the transmission - even with hard driving I'm getting 200mi to the half tank! I definatly want to keep my car running, at least hit that '300k mi' mark on the 2nd tranny :/ Could have gottten a VE 5spd for the price of the transmission
Thanks-
