speed sensor location

i went to a nissan mechanic yesterday, for months i assumed i had a speedometer cable on my 89 SE, this guy just taps it back into place like it was nothing, and my speedo started workin. He told me it might pop out and stop functioning again. If this happens, where is it located so i can put it back in or replace it myself when necessary.

you're probably talking about the electrical part. It has been known to pop up and you just need to tap the rubber back in.

assuming you have a VG (red valve covers and oil fillup tube toward the windshield) then the speed sensor is about 6" away from the oil filter (closer toward the driverside) on top of the tranny. it is about as big around as a half dollar and about 2" tall w/ a wire coming out of it that goes basically straight upward.

in same place on VE also but you can't use the oil filter as a point of reference cuz the VE oil filter's in the front.
