What's the taillight mod?>
a mod can either mean performance or for show. mod is short for modification. i will give you an examples of both show and performance mods. changing your headlight bulbs to a hyper white bulb (a higher wattage blue tinted bulb) is considered a show mod unless you have a true hid (high intensity display) headlights then it can be considered show and performance. now a performance mod would be changing your stock air box to a intake/pop charger/cai (cold air intake) because the stock air box is very restrictive and the more air your car gets the better it runs. depending on what your personal taste is, if you want to starting modding your car for show, most people go with body kits, changing lights, lowering your car (this can also be considered a performance mod), etc...and if you want performance mods, if you do own a maxima, heres the way to go, intake (breathe in), no headers...not yet avaliable in mass production but if you got money...can get it custom made, y pipe hi flow cat full cat back and hi flow muffler (breathe out), then if you have a 4th gen or higher...get a super charger from stillen, then you can get under drive pully, and ecu (computer...last mod you really want seeing as how it makes currents mods work better) or nos (some members like sx7r have it in their maxes). i could go on and on but i hope this info helps you out and also before i forget, welcome to maxima.org
forgot to answer your subject question, a taillight rewire mod in a 3rd gen is when you switch the signal bulb with your outer brake bulbs. therefore making your outer red bulb your new signal and making your signal light always on (red with yellow and when you brake both get brighter). check your local motor vehicle laws before you perform this mod but where i am from, most ricers/racers have hyper white in their signals and cops dont care.
Oh, I see. I have true HIDs on my 3000GT by the way. And a 15" white neon tube for my rear license plate. It's not the square license plate neon(yuk), but a hidden tube in the rear bumper(where the stock yellow-looking lights are). It actually gives a white/blue look, much better than the stock lights. I wanted to clean up the color since I have true HIDs. You cannot see the neon tube. Cost $15 for the Street Glow 12V tube.
The tail mod is pretty cool, but check your local laws about that stuff. I got pulled over pretty quick after I did my tails. The cop just told me to fix it, but still a bummer. Also, if you do the mod and have to lengthen your wires (like many do) carefule to make GOOD connections. I have one so-so connection and it shorted out my fuse every time I turned on my car. I went through many fuses before I figured it out.
Good luck.
