Do you think it's safe for a Synthetic oil change in a high mileage car??
I have 136k miles and i want to do a synthetic change but someone told me i shouldn't do that cause it might start going past the piston rings and therefore i'll burn oil.
what do you guys think?, is it safe to do??

IMHO, this should not be a problem. The molecules are more uniform and the oil is more detergent. If your motor is otherwise in good shape, it should be just fine.
But, then I ask, - you've got 130K+ - why spend the extra $$ now. How about just continuing regular changes with a good quality dino oil.
All this said, you may find it interesting to have your oil tested by a lab like

I use them myself - there are also other labs. For under $20 it may be worth having a sample run.

I just switched my oil to synthetics. I was under the impression it could do nothing but good things for the engine. My car has over 138,000. I havent noticed any changes and my car isnt smoking. It still runs strong too.
Ill be watching this thread closely, though.

shouldn't be a prob
This shouldn't be a problem if your engine is in good shape. My roomate has a 91 GXE with 185,000 on it and he switched to Mobil1 tri-synthetic around the 150K mark. I personally would give it a shot b/c I've seen the results on his car. He's very happy with the change and the car uses or leaks NO oil at all. Good luck
synthetic does not burn, that's why whwen you put it in your car normally quits smoking. However, it still will leak past and you can still lose oil. I run synthetic when i can. I never change intermittantly. I ran it all summer long, when it was at 84K till about 102K. Lately i just haven't had the money to put it in. When i'm at school it makes it rough. when i did put it in, i defenitely noticed an improvement in my car's smoothness. i used mobile 1 10-30. I wouldn't use anything other than mobile synthetic. Just my opinion and personal preference.
the reason syn. oils get a bad rep in high mileage cars is when the engine doesn't have good seals. Conventional motor oil builds up sludge around the cam seals, hiding what might have been an oil leak. When you put the syn. oil in, it will clean up some of the sludge and varnish, exposing the seal again. If the seal is not in good shape (they should be replaced around 90K miles), you'll get the oil leak. Don't blame the syn. oil for being too efficient; it's the owner's fault for not upkeeping the maintenance with new seals.
check this out......
If you decide to go with the synthetic, go to your local Wal-mart soon and pick up a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 tri-synthetic. They're new at Wal-mart and they have them really cheap right now.......i picked one up last night for $17.88! That's a lot cheaper than paying $4.**/qt. F.Y.I.
