RSB Questions

I'm undecided between buying the addco rsb or getting the st sway bar kit. Which tends to be a better setup for cornering, just the addco or the full st sway bar kit. Or would the best bet be to have the addco in the rear and st fsb in the front?
Does the front st sway bar really help much? Our stock fsb is somewhat beefy out of the box.
Please post your thoughts

the stock front bar is NOT beefy. it's whimpy 16gauge hollow steel.
the ST bar is the same diameter, but it's solid spring steel. 6lb stock, vs 40lb for the ST.

depending on your other mods and how it's handling, you could go either way. also depends on your driving habits. If your car already pushes pretty bad, then I suggest goign with the addco rear only. the ST set will make it push a little more and the Addco will make it oversteer more.

If you can get the ST set for cheaper than a ST front / Addco rear, then I say get the ST set. I think summitracing has cheap prices for the ST set, though they tend to be backordered from time to time.

I believe Jeff did the ST/Addco thing and he said he loved it. Mizeree's Whiteline FSB is almost the same thing. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....ight=fsb+addco

Upgrading the FSB may make street driving more enjoyable since it reduces front end lean when you take sharp right hand corners (for example). At the very limits of cornering it might understeer, but most people don't drive in the city at 100% anyway, and the upgraded RSB should compensate at least a little bit. For racers like Matt, they go as far as totally disconnecting or removing the FSB all together. This isn't done for more oversteer, but because they want to make the RSB more effective and allow them to power out of corners (it's complicated....). I feel that this is the difference between tuning for street driving and tuning for track driving. There was a HUGE argument over "FSB or no FSB" at some VW site I was reading once, and I am sure this was the problem - people looking at "handling" with different perspectives.

Try phoning around to see how prices for all 3 options costs, although the Addco might be a bit harder to find locally (the Addco cost over $200 from Canadian Tire last time I checked).

I have the ST set and am extremely happy. Jeffy loves his setup, I've never driven it, but eitherway, the FSB is awesome, but the RSB is a should do mod (even moreso than a FSTB - those are just a should do because they are so cheap ).

Brian (internetautomart) sells ST sways at a good price too.

i'm gonna search around for pricing. i'd like to do the st/addco combo if i can.
i will most likely deal with brian. his price is decent. i'll shop around to find a place with decent shipping rates. ie; doesn't ship ups
no offence to brian though, he's a good guy.

thanks for the link bman.
i can't believe CT actually sells addco stuff.

Yeah, they do through the special order catalog. Same with Toks, KYB, ES, and tons of other stuff... might be worth your while to check it out one day just to see what product lines they carry. Some things are reasonably priced, others not so much.

Brian's prices are great as long as shipping it up here isn't going to be ungodly, since it's probably going to be an "oversize" package.

I bought my ST kit on ebay and only spent $280 shipped. To find it you have to type in something like maxima suspension or maxima suspension techniques

that's a great price but it says they won't ship until 12/12/04. obviously they're out of stock.

i've found a seller by the name of 'streetdemand' that has a decent price on the pair. shipping is free within the united states but to ship to toronto the guy wants $70. that's b.s.! he obviously is jacking up the shipping price because he thinks it'll be a hastle to sell across the border.

I forgot you live in Canada. Personally, I could wait till December for that price if I were in the market for the set, because shipping and handling is $13 there, making the total price $243 shipped. But, you have that added wrinkle, which may make it not worthwhile to wait.

my issue is that i'm replacing the bushings in the rear as well the sway bars and rear links. once the sway bars and bushings are installed i need to get an alignment and slap on the snow tires. i want to get the snows on before december so that's why i'm not so patient for re-stocking delays. i was outside today changing my gear oil and helping another buddy with his 4th gen. GOD DAMN IT'S COLD!!! there's another reason why i'm trying to hurry up and get the sway bar kit.

Streetdemand is the same guy I bought mine from but, I live in the U.S. and $70 for shipping is rediculous.

Did you even click the link and read the description?

Second line of the description: "Sway Bars, Front 1 1/4 in. Diameter, Rear 3/4 in. Diameter, Steel, Black, Nissan Maxima, Kit"

Would you like me to spoon-feed you your lunch as well?

Well, you could always do the sway bars separately later on if you can wait. You don't need to do another alignment if you swap those out. Bushings yes, sway bars no.

I have the ST front and ADDCO rear. The handling is much better than just the ADDCO alone. I thought it would understeer a ton more, but it really brings the front end under control.
