help runnin 4gauge wire from trunk to front

I need help finding a spot that is easy to get to, I dont want to remove my dash and crap to find the firewall wherever it is. I was thinking about making my own hole by drilling through somewhere, but it would be a decent size hole...need to run 4gauge and 3 other small wires through it. Ive heard of runnin it through the door, but my friend has it on his car and his door creaks over the slightest bumb because the wire rubs in the closed door....thanks for the help. also if you have any pics of how you ran your wires for an amp that would be nice...like where you ran the wire to the engine bay

All you gotta do is drill just above and to the left of your brake pedal into the firewall. A good idea is to pull back the drivers side carpet and tear off the stuff they got on the firewall before you drill. Look for any light coming through the firewall while youre under the steering wheel. Double check the location ,under the hood ,before you drill. That should do it.

if you don't want to drill a hole you can run it through a rubber grommet that's located underneath the wiper motor. and i would suggest you run the wire from the front to the back. running from the trunk up is a real pita.

do I need a certain drill bit that is big enough(ofcourse) and strong enough to make it through the metal? also...i looked there and it looks like fuel rails or some kind of thin metal lines run near there..but my judgement could off....

You do NOT have to drill
find your hood release cable gromet and run it through it I have a 4gauge wire running throught there in my car, and today just installed another 8 gauge wire onto a friends car (had a previous 8 gauge for his head unit and added a sub).

Snake it back under the kick panels and carpet, under the rear seat and into the trunk.

will i need to make any cuts or make the hole bigger some how, or is there already enough room to run the wire? I'll have to get on my back and look up at the hood release thing and follow it out. pic would be awesome...but thanks for the info. ill try looking tomorrow

dont have pics on my servers or on this computer

pull the inner fender liner for the front drivers wheel, the back half towards the door. You will have to cut the gromet abit. The easiest way is to snake the cable through the engine bay (there is a few large holes by the battery) to the fender, through the fender to that gromet then push it though, once its through go inside and start pulling. It's easiest with the kick panel off.

because its 4 gauge you will want to snake it under the carpet, easiest way is just to pull the door sills out, and that center pillar part (its tricky at first but you'll get it ). then you can just pull up the carpet and stuff the wire down, get it far enough that it isnt buldging and that crap. Make sure you run the RCA's on the passenger side. Personally I run the remote wire with the power wire.

I ran mine through the engine harness grommet in the driver side wheel well. You just have to pull out the fenderliner to get to it but doing this way you wont see any cable.

are you sure it was the engines wiring harness. IIRC they fill it in with a urethane or something, pretty dang hard to poke through. I really wish i had my pics

d00d you dont need to snake it all the way back there. There are 2 really big holes right next to the battery that go into the fender, just snake it through there, then you dont have this extra cable snaking through your engine bay and it looks really clean and hidden.

Yeah it am sure it was it. It was one thick **** but i know the wire will never wear through and ground itself out. It looks very clean also.

Oh.. FYI.. that's not rustproofer. that's just DIRT. that color of car is notorious for doing that. Get a bottle of simple green or Gunk engine cleaner and a plastic bristle brush and go to town.

Or dirtiest

If you don't feel like removing the fender liner, just go for the straight-forward hole drilled through the firewall. The process took me ~30 mins TOPS, starting with a smaller bit and working up to one large enough to adequately support my 4ga power cable, along with filing down the jaggedness from the hole. I tried for 3 hrs to figure out how I could do it without drilling, but just succumbed to that at the end.

Make sure you have the kick panel & plastic pieces from the driver's side to the backseat removed before you begin. You can then run the wire from the top of the carpet on the driver's side into the area under the door sill & all the way to the back (4ga fits fine and doesn't show, but you might want to pay attention to make sure it doesn't block the fuel tank lever). Removing just the bottom part of the rear seats is all that's necessary (simple pull up on that piece and it comes free easily) as you can then push the wire into the trunk. While you're at it, run the blue remote wire over to the stereo location as well in the same route as the power cable from the trunk.

that's ten years of dirt and oil built up on the paint. a good degreaser and a plastic brush will make quick (relatively) work of it. spend a couple hours scrubbing in there and it'll look a LOT better.

I've seen several people with engine bays worse than that, and they look cleaner than the outside of the car when they're done. amazing.
