I have had mine bypassed for a long time with no problems. Get that iac valve fixed and try it then. that way you can rule out that being the problem.

I have this problem too; my idle is kinda messed up; so I made a toggle switch between the VTC's and the ground, so when my idle starts to go erractic, I unground the VTC's. The when the car has been running for a while, I ground them to stop the VTC clattering.

the idle turns to crap when you first ground them. I believe my ECU has adjusted now so when I ground them the idle just fluxuates a hundred rpm or so every few seconds, still kind of annoying. When I first grounded them the idle was complete crap.

yeah, what they said.. just give it time. the ECU has to adjust for some reason.

but it can't be too bad.. I still run a 14.7 at the track with grounded VTCs.

some times the clattering noise can be your firewall side hydraulic chain tensioner... take a better listen , just to be sure... i caught mine before it did serious damage..
just check to be safe..
