Coilovers

i was wondering since some comapines such as cusco, etc. makes coilovers for the A31 cefiro....would it fit the max since the chassis is similar? even if max is FF and the cefiro is FR?

About a year or so ago, Randy (Lordrandall) started a thread, and a subsequent conversation with Brian (Cattman) from Cattman Performance regarding designing some coilovers for the 3rd gens. I don't think it ever got off the ground past the "Let's get it started" point.

IMHO, the biggest thing that made 90% of people "shy away" from initiating this was the fact that the price (initially hinted at being in the $1200-$1400 range) was just a bit out of the so-called 'normal' enthusiasts' range. I'm sure there were other factors there as well - but that's probably the most prominent.

I don't know if Brian even VISITS the boards much anymore, but it might be in your interests to give him and his company a call and see if anything can be done.

For MY piece of mind, though, I won't be holding my breath much. Last time I checked, he needed to get at least 25 people on board, with a pre-sell of 15 with a 50% cash down deposit, AND a 3 month waiting period from design/R&D to final product delivery.

THAT is a LOT to ask of someone... especially considering when all they need to do is 'pony up' funds for Intrax/Sprint/Eibach springs, a set of Tokico/Suspension Techniques/KYB struts, and be on their way...

I'm still peeved that the Cattman deal never went through. I actually had the money to spend on coilovers back then and would have absolutely killed for a set back then.

If I recall we needed like 15 people and only had 5 or 6 people seriously interested and had the funds to show for it. Sadly that was probably as close as we'll ever come

1200 is a reasonable price for coilovers....

i would probably have to get custom coilovers made utilizing the strut and shock....just kinda like this; where they just welded some ground control coilover sleeves on some AE86 shocks...

but with cusco A31 pillowball uppermounts ...if they fit

There's always that big IF part.

what would people be willing to pay for a set of coilovers though?

spending that much for just coilcovers seems like a waste... with the funds that would be spent on that small insignificant mod many other desirable and useful upgrade/modifications could take its place... IMHO it just seems kinda worthless to me :shrugs:

I take it you've never ridden in a car with coilovers compared to regular springs/shocks? Until you have, you can't ever fully grasp the difference. It's not even the same car.

guys, I've been trying to get coilovers made for these cars for the last 5 years.. and if you know me at all, you know I'm one that will put up before I shut up... I've thrown money at people like Ground control, Cattman, Progress, etc etc. and none of them will do anything without at least $20,000 sitting on their desk and committments for 15+ orders. If any of you have that kind of cash sitting around to help in development, let me know and I'll give you some names and phone numbers.

How are coilovers better than normal performance struts/springs?

The thing that gets on my nerve is how people expect coilovers to be cheap. By this I mean true coilovers not the spring coilovers. What can people expect the cost to be? Look at the price for these coilovers I mean we'll be in the same range if not lower. Maybe we'll need to get some spring coilovers made for example I'll kill for these if they provide a better ride than stock.

i remember when i put in shocks and springs and the rear was one big unit with the brakes on it....maybe thats one of the reasons why they dont make coilovers for the 3rdgen; i could be wrong though

It's just part of the hub that is attached to the bottom of the spindle. All the braking components come off.

I've seen pics of a the rear assembly off of a 3rd gen with a ground control style coil over on it. Hell I'm pretty sure one of the guys on this board (maybe even this thread ). Not 100% sure though and dont like making assumptions because that never ends well.

Eitherway I'm content with my Eibach/Tokicos

I'd be willing to pay about $30-$50. Is that enough?

How much do you want to spend? When the time came, not enough people wanted to put up the money.

Game over.
