92 max shuting off while driving,5sp dohc ( help)
undefinedi have a 92 max 5 speed dohc.. while driving it . it will stall. sometimes for a sec. other times for 30 sec. it always starts back up.It does it most while hot. not cold. it gets worse if you run it hard.
no codes... the only thing i did just a month ago was a upper and lower intake gasket. and a freeze plug on the valley.since this problem. i've checked
the fuel psi. aac valve, vaccum leak, coil packs, cam sensor, all connections.
anyone every run into this problem? any suggestions?
thanks.

I replaced the coils after having this problem and now its gone. However other solutions might be the MAF. Those are the two main culperates of problems like these.
P.S.- bought the coils from www.internetautomart.com and they do good business!)

If you have checked everything, and unless you have a huge crack in one of your coils, I'm willing to bet its your MAF. I had this same exact problem, it would cut out when cruising, and other times when taking off from a stop. It would usually fire right up again, but sometimes it would take a minute.
Try this: pull off the harness connector, you will see the female connectors inside of it. Take a pin or other small pointy object and bend the connectors inward so that they will have a tighter connection with the male ends. This is all it took for me, so hopefully it will help you out too.

A lota help
thanks for the help i'm tring the easy stuff first. before i pull the intake off again.
I cked the coils and the grounds,
no luck so far.
i'll try the maf stuff next, and the relays.
thanks for all your help.
on the vaccum leak, dose anyone know the reading spec?
i have a guage to put on it and try.

Stock manifold vacuum at idle is 19 inHg. Not sure if thats what you are looking for or not.

The vaccum leak will cause your car to surge and run kind of rough you would know right away if you had one. Some or all of your hoses might be dry-rotted. If you have a leak you should be able to here it. You can get nice vaccum lines on E-bay in different colors. Don't go to the dealer unless you want to get overcharged. They carged me 21.56 for one hose+tax. Imagine if I changed all of them.

Did you change the gas filter? Also try cleaning out the throttle body. Pour some Seafoam directly into the intake manifold through the elbow in the back of your intake manifold. I tried to do it through the throttle body but I think it will soak in better if you pour it in through this hole instead. Also pour a bottle of it into your gas tank when it's almost empty then fill it up. A lot of people on Maxima.org sware by it, (Seafoam). You'll clean out your intake valves with the first one and the second will clean out your injectors. Buy a few Bottles, you won't be sorry.

- all six coils cannot die simultaneously, would cause rough run, maybe with ECU safe-mode =2500 rpm limit?
- Same is with other sensors individually: if MAF dies, TPS will take over and ECU safe mode jumps into pic.
- Gasket could take off partially only three cylinders---> falls possibly to ECU safe mode.
Seek smtg higher in the troubleshooting tree, smtg which is common to all six cyliders like:
- Someone suggested relays related to ign. -replace
- Ign switch connectors bad, (fools ECU), -replace
- What is the gas pressure while stalling? Is pump on? -Verify somehow.
- ECU itself [heat related] , clean ECU wire/connector pins with white paper/cardboard. If you suspect the ECU itself, cool the ECU box with electonics freezer gas, while the problem is on.
