Yeah porting and polishing has nothing to do with changing the cams. Its for opening up the passage way for air and fuel (porting) and decreasing turbulance (polishing). So sure a bigger cam will benifit from porting and polishing but so does a stock configuration.
Not sure how much it would help the VE or if it would be worth it or not because I honestly dont know how large the runners are or how rough the casings are because I have never had my head off.
If anyone wants pics (for references) or is interested in heads (that way you have no down time if you get them ported and polished), I have a set I just pulled off my old engine. They are in the garage and I could take pics of anything you want and email them to you. Just shoot me a PM. I also have the cams if someone is interested in them (minus the VTCs).
