9004->9007 conversion

I just read about some 4th gens doing this and getting awesome output. I wonder if it's worth a shot or if anyone's already done this. I have spare headlights and 9004 bulbs lying around, so I might give it a shot over winter break.

You can go to autozone and buy a 9004>9007 adapter for 10 bucks.

The adapter or upgraded harness isn't a problem. Our stock headlamps aren't meant to use a 9007 beam pattern (as are the 4th gens), so I was wondering if anyone tried it already. Some modification will need to be done to the lamp so the 9007 bulb will fit. Also, the headlights will need to be re-aimed.

This is potentially a good alternative to HID's and BMW conversion. I'm so excited!

I've seen someone on here with a grey VE that has done it. He's a fairly new guy, but can't remember his name. If someone has search access, I think they could find it for you by searching for 9007 in here, but I dont so I can't help

I've done it and I highly recommend it. I also did a LB to HB swap on my 9007 bulb. Just look through a couple pages and you'll find my pictures of the beam pattern, its very nice, bright, white and the lighting on the road is alot more intense now that I have a 65watt low-beam.

One thing I would recommend on bulbs are plain ol clear bulbs and to stay away from colored bulbs of any shorts. I bought Sylvania XtraVisions (clear bulbs) and also Sylvania Silverstars (light purple coating) and I find the beam of the Xtravisions much more defined and clear, especially when tackling a country road.

ScreaminVE, thanks for the info. More questions though.

1) I'm not exactly understanding why you did LB->HB. Just to get more output?
2) How is visibility in the rain?
3) Also did you upgrade the harness?

So to recap JSutter's initial post:
1) Switch low beam (middle wire) and ground wires (black) on 9004 harness
2) File down headlamp nubs except for 12 o' clock position
3) Connect 9007 bulb to altered 9004 harness and insert into lamp

I guess instead of Step 1, you could add a 9004->9007 harness connector and not have to modify the wires.

I did the LB to HB conversion because the light is aimed closer in front of the car when you reposition the bulb to work in that fashion. My headlights won't adjust up/down so that was my only option. The side-effect and a very nice one is that I have a brighter LB plus I don't need to use foglights because the beam pattern starts right at my hood-line from the drivers seat. Also, since the filament is vertical using the Jsutters directions, the glare is unbelievable that I was being flashed all the time with using Jsutters technic, but that is also due to me not being able to adjust the headlight.

If you are going to use the new harness, all you do is swap the wires in the new harness instead of the OEM ones.
