Question

what up everybody,

I'm new to this site. It's great to know that it exists. It will certainly help newbies like myself. I have a question. While driving my car stalled, and I couldn't start it after that. I have power as everything works, but i still can't get it to start. I tried boosting it and it turns over but wouldn't start. After trying it a few times I noticed a small whining sound. Do anyone know what it might be? I'm just a bit concerned as I only bought the car 2 months ago.

Your thoughts please...

my guess is that your mass air flow pipe is loose. When that happens your engine is unable to take in any air doesnt have enough air to run on and therefore shuts off. That could be the problem if your saying that the power is still on. If thats the case then just tighten it and you should be fine. Good Luck.

Whitemax,

Thanks for your input dawg, but my air flow pipe is secure. Could it be anything else of concern?

Your starter is going bad. My starter did the same thing when it went bad. My car would act as if it would start but it never turned over then you'll hear a whirling sound.

his engine is "turning over" i believe that means the starter is cranking but the engine is not firing/running.

c'mon people...focus!!

So when you had this situation, you changed it and it solved your problem?

first find out if the timing belt is ok....how old is it?

and no...if your timing belt snapped your engine is most likely paper weight.

Danny,

Well my max worked fine for the 2 months I've owned it. The previous owner changed a lot of things, but I don't think he did the timing belt. Not sure bout the fuel pump. I had a look in the engine and all the belts are in place. where is the fuel pump located?

fuel pump is inside the gas tank.

2 months...ok but no history of t-belt may very well mean you broke it...wish you luck w/ that...i hope it's not the t-belt. t-belt is not visible w/o removing the t-belt covers.

it can break sitting at idle if it's weak enough. now you're just really grasping at straws. go out to the car and start removing some covers and check for the belt. also a good way to check is take off the dist cap and crank the car...see if the distributor spins. if not then good chance t-belt broke.

if you don't know what i'm talking about then it's best to have a pro look at it.

The timing belt can break at any speed. A good way to find out is to take off your oil cap and look inside at the cams, then have a helper crank it over...if the cam turns while he/she is cranking then the belt is not broke, if its not.......welllll {paper weight}

very difficult to look in the oil hole since there's a long neck in the way...unless you have those fun scopes.

Thanks for all your input. I apppreciate everybody's .02 cents. I called a local Nissan dealership, and they wanna look at the car. I had my oil change done there in November but the suckas never said nothin' bout my ******* timing belt. I looked around where the belts are but I don't see any cover for the timing belt. Can someone point me to where it is exactly?

not to be rude man...but it sounds like it's getting to be over your head. for now don't worry about the covers. just pull the distributor cap and crank the engine. you should see if the distributor rotor spins or not. if it's not spinning it's dead.

they will not know what condition of your t-belt from doing an oil change.

time to call in a pro.
