I have a water leak in my '89 Max, It only happens when it rains alot or I wash the car. Its on the passenger side, when i looked it seemed to be coming from the bottom of the the blower motor. Its not a whole lot of water, but it is a decent size puddle that forms on the passenger side floor. I have plastic mats down anyway, so the water doesn't absorb into the carpet but forms this little puddle. Anyone else ever have this problem or have any ideas?

 

you sure it isnt coming in from the windshield and traveling down ur a-pillar and onto the floor?

I checked all the door seals and A-pillar area, all the seals are fine and there is no evidence of leakage from the or from the windshield. I look again this afternoon with a flashlight(we've had some more rain here in the northeast) and its definately coming from the blowermotor. I know there is a rubber gasket in between the blower and where it mounts under the dash, could this be worn out? Is it normal for water to be flowing down around there anyway? - like from water that flows down the winshield into the cowl where the air inlets are?

you probably have a clogged front sunroof drain then.
if you search back a little ways we had a thread on how to fix it.

 

Can you see a water trail if you lift the front passenger area of the carpet? If so, is it running down the firewall or not?
I've noticed on both my cars that the cowl area (where the water drains at the base of the windshield) can rust clear through, right above the blower motor. Hopefully that's not the case tho. (you can see pics of the sick rust that's possible in the cowl area and how it can leak inside on my site)
I've also noticed that this cowl area can cause the seam between the firewall and the base of the windshield (bottom corners) and the A-pillars to rust - and this too can let water in. (if you need pics of this, I can take a few as I have the dask out on my other car atm)
These are just 2 other possible sources for you to consider - I'm not saying they're for sure causes - just that you should check to be sure.
Unfortunately, due to their locations, they are not an easy fix. So I hope you discover it's coming in somewhere else.

If the water is coming from the blower motor, I have a question for you...

Even if you didn't, you still may want to check the following:
1) Remove windshield wipers

2) Remove plastic under wipers - It runs the width of the car

3) Look at where the windsheild ends at the cowl - There are *2* yellow little plastic standoffs with small bolts running through them. These are used to position the bottom of windshield when it is being replaced - It keeps it from sliding while the sealent dries.

4) The standoff on the passenger side is DIRECTLY above the fresh air intake for the heat/ac. Check to see if the seal under the standoff is missing, *OR* is dried out/cracked etc.

5) If the seal is missing or bad, water runs down the windsheild, under the plastic, right to the standoff, leaks around it, and drops into the inlet. Directly below the inlet is the blower motor enclosure.

I have detailed pictures of this area if it would help also.

And by the way, I know for a painful fact that this happens only because it happened to me
